I may try some JJ 6V6. The tubes I have in it are from the early 60's (silver top Sylvania's) so not sure how strong they are.

Was that with the UL hooked up?
Yeah, I guess as long as you don't overdrive the output tubes too hard, you can get a good bass response out of pretty much any tube, as long as your tone stack & coupling caps are chosen carefully. It seems to me 6L6/KT66/KT88 are more "bassy" than others, but that could just be my imagination...

And yes, the amp is still wired ultra linear, but I'll be rewiring it "normally" in a few days to compare the sound. I have a feeling I'll like the normal pentode type wiring better.

Thanks! I'm really out of practice; I stopped playing like 10 or 15 years ago, and just picked it back up last year when I started building amps. And yeah, I've been a big Rush fan since like 1980 (Farewell to Kings was my first Rush album that I heard/bought). I used to play tons of their music, and remember a few riffs here & there.

Thanks, man. I cranked it for a while and it's brutally loud  ....also tried some 6L6 & EL34's in there and it sounds very good w/those too. The 6L6's seem to have a more scooped sound, and the EL34's are, well, EL34's (My favorite tube type actually for overdrive sounds; I like the thick overtones the EL34 produces, and those middy tones I associate w/the "British" 70's & 80's metal sound.)

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Cool amp! Balsy tones, for sure. Another nice twist on the Rocket framework.
