Re: Another big bottle Rocket w/verb
I was able to coerce the amp from the owner for a fews days. Took it to band rehearsal last night so I could give it a "real" test. It handled things admirably. Pretty big band: pianist, keyboard/organ, acoustic guitar, drummer, percussionist, bass player, 4 singers, and me on electric guitar. Plugged into the low input, and turn the amp up to about 11 o'clock. I had plenty of headroom. I slammed the front-end of the amp with a bunch of pedals. The set list had styles from slow ballads, to pop brit rock type stuff. I'm totally sold the Rocket circuit...just swap out the power section with some big bottles, and you have one versatile amp.

You know you dont have to coerce the amp from me ... you built it so I figure you get dibs on using it the weekends I don't play.rawnster wrote:I was able to coerce the amp from the owner for a fews days. It's definitely going to get some use ... but great amps are rarely idle.
I think you should use it this weekend. It sounds great with the tele and will be a great intro for the amp. You are using it for what it was specifically designed for so what a great way to test out the capabilities.
Sad that I can't be there to witness it ... work calls
Okay, okay ... it sounds cool, but does it look cool?

Hey Mike,
Did one of the AXAs make it's way into this amp? Just curious.
The faceplate turned out very cool!

That's great Rawnster! I don't think I've ever seen the PI used as a mixer like that before. Are there other examples of this set-up?

Hi Darin. YES. That speaker is the bomb. It's has a bit of a celestion alnico blue flare, but with way more sophistication. Tighter low-end, and refined hi-end that does not do the ice-pick-in-the-forehead thing at all. Darin you should be selling these things like crazy. Mike put the other AXA in his 1x12 open-back extension cab. I tried that cab with my Two Rock Type 3. OMG. There's new life to that amp now. The mid-range came alive. Now I have to figure out how to come up with the coin to get two of them from you.dartanion wrote:Hey Mike,

Ok, I'll stop with the drooling!
The Fane AXA is a fantastic speaker!
Re: Another big bottle Rocket w/verb
Yes ... one of them made it's way in the combo and the other in the 1x12 cab. The nice thing is that the 1x12 cab is the same width as the combo so I have been stacking them and running them both for when I want more of that 2x12 sound and then just ferrying the combo around when I need the portability.dartanion wrote:Hey Mike,

I am going to echo ron on this one and say that this is one of the best alnico's I have ever heard. Sounds great with the Brown Note Blue Monkey 88 as well. The 2x12 cab that I have with the Studio 12L and Medusa 150 has a huge bass footprint but I find that the 1x12 with the blue money yeilds some really nice lows as well and a bit warmer mids. Both great cabs ... those speakers are not going anywhere.
There is something special about those Fane's.
Okay, okay ... it sounds cool, but does it look cool?

Cool guys! I was just checking to see where those speakers ended up. I thought Ron might put them in his TR 212 for a taste test.

Re: Another big bottle Rocket w/verb
Im sure that will happen eventually, but I think the 1x12 sold them. I was scared about letting him put them in his 2x12 because I probably wouldn't have got them back.dartanion wrote:Cool guys! Hey Ron, did you get around to that foot-switch on the boost?

Re: foot-switch
Not on this build, but I did on another build just like this one. I used a switching circuit designed by Dana Hall here on the forum. It worked very well. See pics below:angelodp wrote:Hey Ron, did you get around to that foot-switch on the boost?

That's a really beautiful build! Nice job. I imagine it probably sounds fantastic, too...
Re: Another big bottle Rocket w/verb
Thanks Jackie! It does sound pretty decent...and most importantly, the owner is digging it too.Jackie Treehorn wrote:That's a really beautiful build! Nice job. I imagine it probably sounds fantastic, too...

Rawnster what circuit was in the amp you built in that nice blonde Fender style head cabinet, Blondeshell amp?
