5W Express Build Clips

Post by JamesHealey »

Express 5W, EL84, Heyboer Iron, Boosted w/ Digitech Hot Head.

Similar to my other build but better iron and sozo vintage caps.

Flat EQ, Touch of reverb.

Something strange happend at the end thats not an effect but it kinda sounds cool lol.

sounds very good, it would be fun to make a trainwreak with el84 . adjusted to follow the trainwreak gain struckture . i think it would sound good because of the harmoic that el 84 can produce . :)

Sounds good but you need to learn to quit holding back and let her loose. :)

standard express pre into single EL84.. although I'm debating a 2.7k cathode resistor on the cold clipping stage instead of a 10k.

I've been looking at these 5W builds of mine on a scope recently and they're somewhat acting like a wreck, eg the Power Amp Overdrives first but it never goes into hard square wave clipping like a real wreck more like an asymetrical clipping wave but with a slant on the clip i'll attach a pic to explain it.

The cold clipper looks correct and the 2nd and 1st stage stay clean without clipping like a real wreck does.

your preamp sounds right but i was thinking of a pp amp . fixed or catode resistor . but keep the el 84 in a thight chain because the overdrive easy .
