Sourcing Transformers for Express Clone

Post by Gargoyle »

Firstly, I would like to publicly thank, MFowler, Allyn, Dana and Paulster for their assistance and advice regarding my Express project.

The problem, I can't seem to get 240 volt PT & stock of the OT seems scarce.
Have tried;
Allyn
Moose advised he doesn't have em and not sure when he'll next have them....
Have emailed Heyboer direct (awaiting reply).
Don't know how to contact Pacific.....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I would wait on Heyboer's reply for another day or so, and give them a gentle prod if necessary (it could have been caught in a spam filter). They will definitely wind you a 240V primary as I've had plenty of PTs from them with dual 120V primaries that can be used in series or parallel.

Pacific will do it as well, but it's more involved and you need to organise shipping from your end as soon as it's going out of the country.

I've done this too, but it's certainly easier to deal with Heyboer for this kind of thing.

Hey Gargoyle,

I had the same problem.
Big Thanks to MFowler - I've got codes for Pacific transformers (and other great help too).

Yesterday I received both, OT and PT, EU version, 240V (from Pacific)
Transformers were made by the same person who did them for Ken, they told me.
At the moment my contact person from Pacific is in EU, check PM.

Shipping to AU would be expensive, but it's the only way.

regards

Reverbus,
Thanks, I got the pm.

Be interested to get the codes of both the PT and the OT so I can put them in the email.
Cheers

Output Transformer Needed for Express

Post by Diablo1 »

New guy on the forum and would like to build Express clone.
I need a source for the output transformer.
Tonesluts didn't respond to my e-mail, so not sure if he's still selling transformers. I see that Mojo sells an OT HTS-5200-J, 11415 TW-OT-J. The spec sheet on the Mojo says it has a 6.6K primary, which is what I'm looking for. Is this the same Heyboer OT that Tonesluts calls their Vintage Spec (using M19 steel)? If not, does anyone have a Heyboer part# for the Vintage Spec OT so I can order from Heyboer or one of their dealers?

As an alternative, is there a source for the Pacific OT?
I also shot an e-mail to allynmey's website, and have not received a response. Anyone have a part# for the Pacific OT so I can call up Pacific and try to order?

I'd like to support Moose or allynmey by buying from them, but they're not making this easy. I'm ready to buy a PT and OT set.

Keep trying Allynmey or toneslut or pm rjguitar for TW iron as well.

The Mojo iron is over priced.

The correct parts number for Pacific transformers is a mistry at this time and no one is talking. I was told that the K&M data sheets I posted were not correct :?

Have you ever checked the pricing of Mercury Magnets? Outrageous...
I will get my Irons from Shinrock.. probably the same quality as MM...

Is Ingo successfully delivering again though? Lots of people were left in the lurch before he re-branded his business and I read a post only yesterday of someone who has been waiting since September for a response from him.

He produces great transformers... if you ever get them.

I will see, so far I haven't had any issue, got my stuff in time and as he's doing the Irons now as a hobby I recognized that it will take time before I get my stuff. However, I also know what had been through in the past.. nothing you would want to see your biggest enemy going thru... so I respect any delays and I am happy to seem him back in business.
I'll keep u updated...

Ken had different companies make his trannies at different times. The original was thought to be Stancor 3801. The Stancor had a couple of extra taps for 125 and 250 ohms IIRC and Ken had some made without the extra taps. The Pacific are thought to be the one he settled on and was used most. The Stancors (When you can find them) are going for a pretty price on EBay. I have used Mooses Trannys on a number of builds and you can't go wrong with his. The last few amps I have built used Pacifics and I would recommend either of those two for authenticity. I haven't tried any of the others so I can't comment on those. Brian at Marstran usually has some killer iron though and just like Moose, really does his homework. We are so lucky to have this many options today.

Phil at Heyboer will wind you a Euro version of Mooses' tranny (and Toneslut may carry a 240V version too, don't know).

I had Phil make me a 120/240 PT version to allow me to test the amp before shipping to the UK for ~$120. It can be done, just call them.
