New production Magnatone varistors
There was a thread some time back were a possible company in England was thought to be where the new Maggy company was buying their varistors from. Has anymore information been found/confirmed about this? The company has several vari's, that from their spec sheet, look like they could be used. The t...

New Magnatone amp schematics?
Has anyone been able to get a copy of any of the New Magnatone vibrato amp schematics? Or has anyone got a hold of any of the NEW Maggy vibrato amps and made their own schematic? They are using new production varistors, I'm wondering if they had to tweak the circuit/change some R/C values to get the...

Re: Gibson GA55V schemo
Thanks Ian for having a look at it. I'm working on a bread board so when I finish it I can put the circuit on it and see if she fly's. But if she doesn't I'll have no idea what might be wrong. Gibson's GA-83S does work as Vox copied it for their AC15/30's. I was thinking that Gibson found a little d...

Re: Gibson GA55V schemo
Thanks Ian. I'm not sure that Gibson drew it up the phase shift circuit correctly? It's different then their GA-83S, GAV1 and the Wurlitzer vibrato that Gibson copied it from. (It's different from Vox's version of Gibson's too.) So I re-drew the GA-55V modulator/mixer circuit hoping to untangle it t...

Re: Gibson GA55V schemo
I've been going over this schemo and there seems to be a couple of flaws in the drawing and with Gibson schemo drawing there might be more. 1, is the B+ string looks like it's missing a 'dot'? (Red circle.) 2, is the wire connecting from the junction of the vibrato channels volume pot wiper and the ...

Re: Gibson GA55V schemo
Wow! Thanks!
I have that book and didn't think to look in it for the schematic.
I'll try and get a clean scan of it and post it here.

Re: Gibson GA55V schemo
Never seen this model number. Tell us about this amp, tube line up, number as size of speakers. Can you post a photo of the front and back? I don't own one, so no pictures to post. From the W. Marx Jr. book on Gibson amps, p. 138; GA-55V, 1954-1958, 473 total built, 2 channels with 4 channel input ...

Re: Gibson GA55V schemo
GA-55 with Vibrato. Yep. I ~think the vibrato (true pitch shift) is a mono version of Gibson's GA83S. The early Gibson stand alone vibrato unit is GAV-1. (These are what Vox copied for their AC15 and AC30, and/or the GA55V.) I've read/have been told that Gibson had a flood in the basement of 1 of t...

Re: Varistor Characteristics for Magnatone Vibrato Circuits
Yes, Lonnie knew Ward and heard him playing through a Maggie and liked it so much he bought his own Maggie, so goes the story.
