Re: Audio Gen

I'll put in another vote for Audacity... I did not want to plug in anything valuable (or AC driven) in case of ground differences or possible voltages present (on a brand new build), so I record the tone on a CD and used an old dollar store CD player that was laying around. I am amazed at how stable...

Re: Express build burn-in

So it sounds like it is mostly the signal capacitors that would benefit from the excercise and the difference will indeed be marginal. Because I will not have a lot of time for the "Just play it for the hours of break-in it takes" I guess I will go with the "it sounds a little more mellow now, I thi...

Express build burn-in

"Question asking is an imperative part of the learning process." I need to cram for this test... Now that I did the filament transformer burn-in on my new Celestions for a couple of days, I want to do the same for the components in my amp. I have read it takes about 100hrs for the caps and other com...

Re: new clip from my modded wreck

Here's a little clip I threw together this morning, improvised for the most part so don't be too harsh. You can hear some of the rhythm tones toward the end of the song when the distorted guitar comes in. Guitars were recorded with just guitar-cord-amp, a little verb added in the mixdown. Cr...

fender trans-impedance attenuator in newer Princeton Reverb

Anyone had a chance to hear one of these circuits? It's a built-in SS amp type attenuator

See US Patent 6816009 for circuit (http://www.pat2pdf.org/pat2pdf/foo.pl?number=6816009)

Brand of 12AY7?

I finally received a couple of EH12AY7s to start testing the latest version builds, but wonder if the sound of these new production tubes is up to the task. Has anyone compared them with particular NOS or used tubes? I am leary about the common complaints that newer production stuff can be somewhat ...

Re: 4-4-0 [2 NEW BUILDS WITH PICS; THE 2 WATT WRECK]

[/quote] Great Cliff. I was hoping my ears were still propery calibrated  Personally, I like the 12ay7 better than the 12av7 now but the 12av7 is a good low cost choice. The only other change you might want to make is to change the NFB resistor to around 10k. Since I built the only one with a N...

Re: 4-4-0 [2 NEW BUILDS WITH PICS; THE 2 WATT WRECK]

Depending on the situation, we may not have a choice but to go without a speaker, using the Firezog output.

I think it is good practice to just keep the 10ohm there, and actually, I am surprised it is not a safety standard on all tube amps.

Re: 4-4-0 [2 NEW BUILDS WITH PICS; THE 2 WATT WRECK]

Thanks for responding Brian. I figured R13 was there as a good safety idea, but it sure made me wonder if we still need the 10ohm/5w on the first jack, when using the Firezog output without a speaker. Is it that the R13 resistance value is too high for the expected impedance match, to just eliminate...

firezog

Brian, can you confirm if you implemented the Firezog line-out something like this?

Re: 4-4-0 [2 NEW BUILDS WITH PICS; THE 2 WATT WRECK]

Didnt Fernandes guitars market something like this called the Sustainiac or Sustainior? They had a line of guitars with a transducer built in to the guitar itself... Cool! I was quite impressed with the clean Sustainiac sound in this "Open Mind" song: http://www.sustainiac.com/glenn_delaune.mp3 Che...
