Re: 66 Rocker - AKA 66 Rocket ...Eventually the 66 Rockster
Merlin recommend the use of grid stopper (even a 100R) between the anode of preceeding gainstage (V1b)and the grid of the cathode follower(V2a).
Since you use two different triodes for that purpose i will try 1k here.
HTH.

Re: Single tone knob question
You could simulate the chieftain/gibson/etc tone control with Duncan TSC. go to big muff, dime the tone control, make R2 10/100 Mohms, select your favourite caps/resistors value and an appropriate output impedance Zsrc. Imagine you have a 1M vol pot before it at noon and try a 200K Zsrc  of co...

Re: Full tone stack off of an EF86?
the rt. 66 does this https://tubeamparchive.com/download/file.php?id=8365 it's a quite low loss T/B tone control that sounds good. treble pot adds high-mids distortion as well when turned up, and the bass pot set the amount of...bass. IMHO it work well for blues/rock tone but doesn't have the mid sc...

Re: Choke/R switch
FWIW i played a bit with the unbypassed screen grid resistor on the 18watter. just put a 2k2 pot between screen and the supply node (1K5/22µf) and played with it. i ended with a pot value around 500R, so i put back these 1K unbypassed resistors i had before (500R/both>1K/each). imo unbypassed screen...

Re: Choke/R switch
FWIW i once measure screen voltage while playing(dangerous) on an SS recto 18watter with 32µf/plates then 1K5-22µf/screens(with 100R unbypassed resistor) and the voltage go from ~300v down to ~240v on big power chords... a choke and then a switchable resistor with a filter cap in between is a nice s...

Re: Looking for a tone - "Smelly Nelly" by Krokus - K
Hi, It may be in my head but i'm hearing a hint of a phaser, flange or chorus like effect in the krokus riff. or may be this sort of effect with the speed down slow used as filter...anyway it's barely perceptible and it could just be me  Caseyjones thanks for the UFO clip, it remembered me a lo...

Re: EL-84 recommendations
I tried a pair of NOS/NIB 6p14p-eb(v) in my 18w and found them to sound good but to lack bass (shrill?). they have a tad more headroom than my JJ's or Dario's but in this amp they lack growl. i read the 6p14p-eb(v) need to break-in. did you experienced sound change after break-in? my 18w may not be ...

Re: Any insight into this b@st@rd amp I have?
if these 2X100k's are connected in the middle to the 68K sending local feedback to the cathode. then the 5/150 cap short feedback in the guitar frequency range (10hz reactance is about 3k). I would prefer a 5uF/250v here I assume the 68k/350 to be a voltage divider, setting the cathode at a "steady"...
