Re: Help installing 9pin shield
I am not familiar with that specific socket and shield but I wonder if the pieces are actually supposed to fit together as a unit. Is it possible that the socket is supposed to be a good fit from above in a proper sized hole in the chassis and the shield base clamps it down when screwed to the chass...

Re: tube reverb
Fantastic!
How is the reverb pan mounted or is it in a bag? The original Fender design uses light springs at the corners of the pan to suspend it in air. There is a clamp to hold it down for transporting.

Re: tube reverb
I went to the Tube-Town website to look at your reverb kit. It says that the circuit is based on the original Fender stand-alone reverb. I own one of those from the early sixties. You are really going to love the sound. A few years ago I built a clone of the unit from scratch just for fun. I used ey...

Re: Source for Large Eyelets
Those rivetsonline eyelets look really good, but you probably have to buy a lot of them. I haven't done many eyelet board builds, but the few times I needed a "larger hole" I just used two regular eyelets, overlapping them slightly and soldered them together. A link of wire would be added insurance ...

Re: Klemt Echoette NG51A
The "valve socket" just wouldn't make good contact on the tube anymore. I tried carefully cleaning the contacts and bending them to make a tighter fit, but they were still a source of noise. I agree that tapping around will give you all sorts of noise. There seem to be a lot of microphonic component...

Re: Klemt Echoette NG51A
Here is a pic of the filter cap replacement. I used a pair of J-J cans. They, like all other choices I found, are too large in diameter to fit side by side in the original spot. I mounted one near the original place and one on the only vacant piece of real estate available. As you can see, they are ...

Re: Klemt Echoette NG51A
Your Echolette looks to be in pretty good shape. I have four of them in various states of repair. I can send you an English language version of the owner's manual if you PM me with an email address. I can also provide a copy of the schematic. I have gotten a lot of advice from Bobby Staedel on repai...

Re: Why stranded wire???
Back to the stripping wire part of the thread. I used to have a lot of trouble with smaller gauge wires breaking right at the board connection (mostly in effects pedals). I got a thermal stripper and the problem vanished. Almost as good an investment as a good soldering station.

I suggest that you contact Bobby Staedel.

He is THE go-to guy for all vintage German gear, especially things like the Klemt Echolettes. He might have a schematic for your Klemt amp and/or some very good advice.

The Other Extreme
PTP can also be a rat's nest. Here's a gut shot of a 1960's Klempt Echolette tape echo as I received it. Even trying to trace the circuit with schematic in hand is a real challenge. Digging down to replace a leaky cap can require unsoldering many other components. They prided themseleves in enclosin...

Re: soldering iron for Fender chassis solder blobs
I ran across this Craigslist ad this morning and thought about this thread. Would a 300 watt iron do the job?

I might buy this thing and use it to heat my workshop.

Re: soldering iron for Fender chassis solder blobs
The torch idea isn't really so bad. You can get soldering iron tips for propane torches. Just get it hotter than hades, turn off the gas, and go at it. An alternative is an old fashioned soldering iron that is basically a chunk of copper on a stick. You heat it with a torch and then have at it. Thos...
