Same here w/the 2204.... I've also used many of their Fender replacements for various projects.dust puppy wrote:I used an M/C set in a Marshall 2204 clone that I was happy with.

Re: 1W SE miniature amp
Have you thought about doing a P-P version? Just a few more components, another OP pentode and maybe another triode depending on your circuit. That way the possible core saturation using a 70v line trans as a SE is not an issue. Plus P-P's cooler  ...so try a70v regardless and please report ba...

Nice work, Mark! Looks great; I see we both use a lot of the same sources... MC iron, AES boards, etc
Post some clips when you get time.... I want to hear what this bad boy can do...

Re: 1W SE miniature amp
Very cool project! I just built a mini myself, but not that small! Mine is a 12ax7 into a 6au6, then concertina PI (other 1/2 of 12ax7) into a PP section using 2 6ak6's and it is really awesome. Takes a variety of 7 pin mini pentodes. Tons of cheap NOS out there (shhhh). Anyways, my point is, I used...

Re: Iron orientation guidance
Hey Dave, perhaps take a look at how Marshall did it on the Plexi and later heads. I've built a 1987 and a 2204, and the transformers are all in a line: power, output, then choke; all 90 degrees rotated from the last. Although the 1987 was a laydown power trans, the 2204 I built used all stand up mo...

Very nice! Thanks for the link; excellent amps, playing, sound & video.
That is how a demo is done. Some legendary amps there, and an excellent player. You gotta love that beater Tele

Re: jtm 45 with Marstran transformer set
Sounds very nice! Give us a few more details on the recording:
What input(s) did you use (high/low/I or II/jumped)
What were the volumes set to. What's your recording chain?
I like it!

I'm using a 2x12" closed back cab loaded w/WGS greenback clones, or an Avatar 1x10" large closed back cab w/a Celestion 10" Gold.

Re: can anyone explain this to me?
Just to reiterate a few posts (I've used both of these MC trannys), the 50W version is designed to use a full wave rectifier, and the 100w is designed to use a bridge rectifier.
Look at a couple of MetroAmps 100w schematics to see how the bridge is wired up in a 100w Marshall...

Re: Blues Deluxe transformer
You'll need a separate 5v filament transformer to run a tube rectifier, but other than that, I don't see why you'd have any issues.
I really like Magnetic Components' transformers; made in USA, nicely built, nice documentation, and awesome pricing.

Re: Rocket scope traces and gain structure....pics!
... Your PI shows ugly overdriven waveform and is losing symmetry due to capacitive loading by the Cut filter. It's what's causing kinks in the output waveform looking like crossover distortion. Ugly....overdriven.... I thought that was mojo... It sounds much better than it looks... look at t...

Rocket scope traces and gain structure....pics!
So after having a discussion with a couple of members (who will chime in if they choose) about taming Rocket overdrive using modern high output pickups, I decided to put a tone generator on my Rocket clone and scope out the waveform at various stages and see what makes this wonderful circuit 'tick'....
