Good news for you! Excellent learning experience as well.
FYI, you can find flux remover in some supply houses. Usually acetone will work better than alcohol. Flux can become conductive, especially with high voltage.

I think that MCK as found that there was a shorting path around C11 because of some "build-up." Could be flux or something that caused a short.panrixx wrote:So what has actually changed since the first sign of trouble? I've got a bit lost with the parts being disconnected, jumpered and reconnected!

MCK, Bummer about the problems. I'd proceed by trying to isolate the AC from the DC side. I'm not familiar with this amp but perhaps you can disconnect the AC side of the DC supply by removing the fullwave rectifier or the diodes or the transformer wires. I'd start by removing the tubes and then seeing if the fuse holds in. You can check your voltages too. If everything seems Kosher, then you can install the tubes one by one to see if any are giving you a problem. Is there a warranty on the tubes? I'm thinking about building one of these and wonder w...
