Re: Plate Voltage on my Asteroid/Concorde Clone
Thanks Noel. OK- I am running 122 v from the wall. Given that, do you guys think I should be concerned about the amp running relatively high plate voltage? Should I up the mA draw on the power tubes? Leave it be? Overall, the amp sounds amazing.

Re: Plate Voltage on my Asteroid/Concorde Clone
Thanks for this info guys. I thought >500v might be on the high side, but it sounds like others have found similar readings on occasion. Well, at the risk of sounding like a novice (which I am), if there's a safe way for me to use my digital multimeter to check my wall voltage, please let me know an...

Re: Concorde vs. Asteroid/Clone
Yes I agree. I built my 18 watter, but after looking at the gutshots of Allyn's amp, I was quick to realize that my skills/knowledge are not up to that level of a build. I might do a plexi marshall build as my next one, but the asteroid/tribute amp looked too advanced for me.

Plate Voltage on my Asteroid/Concorde Clone
Hi Guys,
Just got my asteroid/tribute/clone amp and found that she's running 507v DC plate voltage. I was really surprised to see this. Is it common knowledge that these amps run such high plate voltages?
She's biased up perfectly otherwise. EL34's are set to 65% at 32 mA each.
thanks,
Khan.

Re: Concorde vs. Asteroid/Clone
Based on what I've read on this site and the overwhelmingly positive feedback on Allyn's amp, I went ahead and bought one. It arrived today. It is a MONSTER. It sounds the way I've always wanted my Marshall plexi to sound. Simply fantastic!

Re: Concorde vs. Asteroid/Clone
Thanks man. That's exactly the kind of info I was hoping to find. Glad you had the ability to do the A/B!

Re: Concorde vs. Asteroid/Clone
This is a great question and I've wondered the same thing. I've heard people say that the "magic" in an original TW or Dumble has not been replicated yet. I don't know if I can believe that. I know that there are builders who can make a Marshall better than Marshall. I built my 18 watt from a GDS ki...
