Personally, I would stick with the Fender-style 30% taper, but again, either one will work just fine. Have fun with your build

Re: Pot taper for a 2nd/3rd Gen build
Hi Matt, I would recommend a 10% or 15% taper for the bass control. The 30% taper used in the real Dumbles (such as mine) makes a smooth control of the bass difficult, there is a switching effect at about 60k to ground, when in "Rock" mode. It works really well in "Jazz" mode, though. With the "Midd...

Re: The Legend has passed
To qoute a Lowell George song: "I read the papers and got the blues, so sad to hear the news..." I have been a Dumble user since 1979, playing my beloved Overdrive Special (2nd gen) in clubs, bars, churches, jails and recording studios, and will continue to do so. I corresponded with Mr. Dumble from...

Re: ODS 24 - revisited for the 21C
Between 1978 and 1981 I had several long phonecalls with Wolfram Roy of Applied Acoustics/Kitty Hawk, and also visited their shop a number of times. He basically said that he thought he could make something like the ODS a lot of cheaper, hence the Kitty Hawk "Standard", which must have been the firs...

Re: High Plate Classic? Should We build it.
FWIW, Tony, although I cannot vouch for every detail, I believe in the amp I played the slope resistor was the usual Sprague Q-Line, 150k 2% tolerance. Hope this is helpful

Re: High Plate Classic? Should We build it.
I´m a little late to the party. Anyway, here´s my .02 cents: I did play a real Dumble High Plate Classic once. A long time ago, but I remember it as being very versatile, good with both single coils and humbuckers, and not too bright at all. In my own experiments, though, I never liked the 150k slop...

Re: the most 3 dimensional sounding ODS circuit
My .02 cents: As the owner of a 2nd generation ODS since 1979, I totally agree with Tony´s observations. Yes, these amps do sound very 3D at stage volumes, imho they need to be played at about the volume of a rock drum set in order to really shine. At bedroom levels, they are far less impressive. Th...

Re: Which ODS has better cleans?
Here´s my .02 (euro) cents ( .0235 USD ) : Tony´s and Charlie´s post sum up everything I´ve learned in the past 41 years about the Dumble (clean) tone, I agree 100 %. My conclusion: While Dumbles are, more or less, capable of producing Fender-style cleans, a Dumble is not really a Fender, nor was it...

Re: Advice on 2nd Gen conversion to skyliner tone stack
So it's been a while since I played my 2nd Gen I pulled it out again just to refresh my memory and have to say that with all the faults in that stack in the way of control it does have it's own character to it and works really well with both clean and OD sides so I don't really find myself needing ...

Re: Advice on 2nd Gen conversion to skyliner tone stack
Here´s what I would do ( and have done on my 2nd gen amp): Lose the .02 cap on the bass pot (wiper to 10k resistor) , if it is in your amp . This way, the tone stack will be fairly close to the Skyliner, tonally. Also, the mid pot will be much more effective. I also used the Skyliner stack in my am...

Re: Dumble Kitty Hawk for sale on Reverb
Tony, sorry for the late reply, I was busy with other affairs....No, this is not the amp I played, it was a 1x12 combo in a hardwood cab, with a EVM 12 inch speaker. AFAIK it is still somewhere in my vicinity, i.e. southern Germany. Sold for 800 DM then (late 90s) , appr. 400 USD
