Re: Help with Sound City LB120 fix

I havent given up yet but we are seeing some interesting things - for example no significant voltage on the HT fuse on either side. WHen volume is turned up the amp grabs more current from the wall socket like 4 amps then we stopped it. It sounds very distorted. When signal is inserted into the reve...

Help with Sound City LB120 fix

I have a SS B120 which is running at less than 1/4 of what it should put out for sound. Cannot find where the problem is. I see dramatic loss of volume in the active control section on the scope - the input and 1st stage plate is hot but soon as you get to the first volume control it seems to lose p...

Re: Submerged guitar amps, any tips on salvage? HELP!

For what this is worth. The electronics maybe the best part to survive provided the water wasn't full of dirt or chemicals. If you google dishwasher - keyboard - ham radio - there are many people who clean chassis and ham sets - keyboards - in the dishwasher. The keyboard I'm typing on was done in t...

Re: Mr. Gerald Weber almost left us...LOL

I've been to two of GWs seminars and have most if not all of his books and videos along with many others. Each book has something new and should be appreciated for that. GW has always treated me with respect and been helpful with my phoned in or emailed questions. And if you bother to read his books...

Re: A Trainwreck, Sound Engineers worst nightmare?

Ive been away a while and missed stuff - what is a VVR? I've tried DC Power scaling when it first came out - ok but fizzy at low low volumes even with the MV. Lately happily, I have been using an Ultimate Attenuator with my 1987x Marshall - I can crank it as loud as I want. The UA dials it down to c...

Re: Parts is Parts

An article I read said to give them the shake test - if you hear anything flopping around - don't use it.

I would like to know the other caps you are speaking of Ritchie - please PM me if you don't want to post it. Thanks.

Re: Parts is Parts

I plan to use spragues for caps but they don't make a 22uf so can I sub a 25uf cap? Specifically, do not use low voltage Sprague Atoms. They've failed on a number of us. Interesting - been using them for years without issue. But you could get a bad run of anything. I guess my biggest concern was pa...

Parts is Parts

Ive been examining the BOM and layout for the Rocket in the files section. My question is - is it necessary to use the parts in the BOM exactly from the manufacturers listed? I'm trying to get it close to original but even Ken would have to reinvent things a bit with todays parts vs what was around ...

Re: New TW site is up....

Just one minor point - the average Trainwreck clone sounds at least 1000 X better than most if not all of the assemply line amps out there. I took one of my Liverpools out Friday to sit in with a friends band - its the one with the DC Powerscale - which DOES affect the off the wall tone of these thi...

Re: PPIMV ?

I get confused over these master volume things - I think what I ended up with was the PrePI Improved Bootstrapped version. You have to use something like this with the DC Powerscale from London Power or it gets fizzy sounding on the lower volumes. [img:590:480]http://www.etxmusic.org/amps/Liverpool_...
