Re: Opinion: The most versatile tube combo amp?
I really can't vote for this poll because it's too open-ended a question. I used to use a Line6 AX2 2-12 because it covered a TON of ground with built-in effects, was easy to program and was a great 'close enough for stinky bars' kind of an amp. Anyone tweaking out about the difference between an Eg...

Re: F&T vs. AmpMedic caps?
That's kind of what I've been seeing on other boards too. F&Ts look like they have a good reputation and they actually cost LESS than the AmpMedic caps. Seems like a bit of a no-brainer at this point. Thanks guys. Cheers, - JJ p.s., funny you mention the relabeled Chinese & Russian tubes. I have a 1...

Too much iron?
Hi, Is there such a thing (besides weight factor) as too much transformer, specifically power transformers? Obviously there would need to be a heavy dose of voltage attenuation if I'm trying to drop 500v down to 290v, along with all the cooling issues that would involve. That's not the 'too much' pa...

F&T vs. AmpMedic caps?
I'm kind of a noob in the sense that I don't have enough complete builds & rebuilds under my belt to know which caps have the best reputation. I need some multi section caps for a couple upcoming builds and am shopping around. I found a good deal on some F&T caps, but also found some being sold on t...

Re: ID-ing old parts?
I don't think the smaller ones are fuses, they're polarized just like the long ones and have very similar markings. Examples of the markings on the long ones are 212-48 & 212-85 (slightly fatter in diameter). For the short ones they're all 212-68 except one marked 034C01 (also polarized). Would thes...

ID-ing old parts?
I recently came into a box of stuff from the estate of a TV-radio repair guy and I have no idea what some of this stuff is. These are polarized so my guess is capacitors with values on them. Maybe diodes, but I've never seen diodes remotely like these so caps are my first guess. Anyone recognize som...

Re: damageed??
Most likely if the amp doesn't work after running it with no speaker load - you've fried your output transformer. When there's nothing for the output section of the amp to output signal and output voltage to, an OT tends to feedback until the windings get so hot they short out rendering your OT usel...

TW out of a Pro Jr?
Hi, Kind of a noob but I've done several repairs and upgrades on amps. Just getting into builds and some serious conversions now. I have a pair of Fender Pro Jrs that I gig with and one is getting a complete terminal board conversion rather that screw with chasing a repeatedly popping power resistor...
