Re: DIY AIR BRAKE WITHOUT THE RHEOSTAT?
Yes, thanks for clearing up that wire gauge question, MHuss. JoeyE, I like that graphic you posted earlier. How did you arrive at the attenuation levels by 2 at each step? Also, does anyone know of some down loadable graphics of this sort floating around on the web? (of course I could always "borro...

Wreck clean to mean with bleed capacitor on guitar vol?
I was planning to do this to my guitar since it is a very easy mod but wonder how it affects the wreck clean to mean thing. Im sure everyone here is familiar with it but ill just explain it just in case. Its a bleed capacitor mod on the guitar volume pot which suposed to retain hi freq loss or preve...

Re: DIY AIR BRAKE WITHOUT THE RHEOSTAT?
I bent the v-shape a bit more and put it all in. It just gave me peace of mind that it was holding the heavy resistor better.

Re: DIY AIR BRAKE WITHOUT THE RHEOSTAT?
How transparent is the sound compared to the airbrake layout? What setting do you start to loose tone or color the sound?

Re: DIY AIR BRAKE WITHOUT THE RHEOSTAT?
Here's what i used for an enclosure. As per Jimis sugestion, i used 100w resistors and the enclosure is roughly 9"x5"x2" and it is sturdy and the circuit guide fins at the side might help with heat dissipation too. I made two speaker jacks so that i can mix speaker types and impedances. I will obser...

Re: DIY AIR BRAKE WITHOUT THE RHEOSTAT?
Great thread. I will be ordering parts soon and the things i plan to do different was to get 50w resistors instead of 100w. It is only 4" long and i could fit it in a compact die-cast aluminum box (mouser part 400-4593). I will also skip the rheostat. I wonder how big of an amplifier i can use it if...

Thanks. Those are vishay low noise resistors.

Re: 4-4-0 [2 NEW BUILDS WITH PICS; THE 2 WATT WRECK]
The hammond OT sounds good to me. Beefing the OT may not make a big of a difference like you would normally get with SE. Actually the amp seem to have a huge soundstage quality to it that you get with bigger PA's. I have a low-watt firefly amp and to me the 4-4-0 is in a different league.

It was the only 1/8" thin wood i could find locally and i dont have any means to cut oak or poplar that thin. Im still figuring out how i can do it.

Heres a video of the cab. Using video mode on a still camera makes the colors dull and washed out than it actually is.

Re: My head cab in progress, opinions? (Finally finished!)
Thanks. What i did was: 1. sand everything upto 220grit sand paper until my arms feels like falling off! 2. I then wiped everything with wood conditioner with a clean cloth (but i had my wife grab some expired hospital bandage where she works and it works great). 3. Then I wiped one coat of minwax n...

Making the 7.5 or 9 degree front angle
This might help those making a trainwreck style cab. This may not be new news but this is my method of measuring a 7.5 degree angle in a trainwreck style cab. In a 3/4" thick wood and looking at it the way it is going to be positioned in the cab. I made a line along the length on the front 2" inches...

Re: My head cab in progress, opinions? (Finally finished!)
Thanks everyone. I thought that my effort will not get results in terms of aesthetics or i was the only one who will like it. I am now making the front that will be the same as the lightest wood in the cab but with a greenish tint like the single thin stripe in the cab because i already have it arou...
