Re: Switch in/out the third gain stage
I think the tone of 3 gain stages is different to 2 regardless of voltage division via a pot.

Switch in/out the third gain stage
I want to be able to have just the 2 gain stages for bold cleans
Can someone help me with a schematic to switch in or out the third gain stage.
I love the express tone I just want to chug out big clean chords aswell
Like a blonde bassman I made once.
Thank you
Davey

Re: Reduce gain on express
I have Changed dropper/decoupler string resistor (R26) from 18K to 10K
to raise the voltage of preamp tubes. I noticed this difference between a JTM45 and a 5F6-A circuit and tryed it on my express.

VVR in a cathode bias amp
Would lowering the HT voltage without altering the power tube bias resistance induce cross over notch distortion?

Caps in series is Half Capacitance
2 x 47uf in series is only 23uF !!
I think thats to many ghosts in the room.
I need the 2 x 100uF to do this.
Ive just realized my mistake in my question
Thanks all
David

Putting findings into action
Hi All, Im working on an express and liverpool build. I was intending on 2 x 47uf 450V low Esr caps in parallel for the B+ 1. Apon finding this post and Glen's findings i have to make a decision on parallel or series. It seems like an improvement and "makes it better" doing series. I like the idea o...

20AWG solid core Silver coated Teflon hookup wire
Hello There After redoing a marshall style amp-clone to an express with 465 plate volts to see what they are like and being overjoyed with the amp I am about to embark on a express and liverpool build. I have on hand and been using exclusively in past builds 20AWG solid core Silver coated Teflon hoo...
