Re: Cab joints strength...
I absolutely agree that on a natural wood cab, dovetails looks the best.... on the other hand, for a tolex covered cab any joint will do, provided it gives enough strength... This is one of the tests I mentioned.... fairly well documented, too... this ink also gives you links to similar tests - for ...

Cab joints strength...
How do you guys assemble cabs - heads, combos or speakers alike...
Traditionally, dovetails seems to be the preferred method, but several joint tests made on YT clearly indicates that common miters makes the strongest glued joint... can even be reinforced by some dovels in booth direction...

PC backing boards
Some over two years ago I started an ODS build... for several reasons it went into a halt before last summer, but now it's time to get going again... I made the larger boards mysellf, with eyelets, and bought a set of the smaller bords from a vendor here.. these were delivered with blank backing boa...

Re: 2nd gen chassis and pcb design?
Somehow I think this "period correct" thing sometimes goes passed logic... If a "period" part is technically inferior.. why keep it? An interchangeable / detachable power cord would be an absolute benefit over the "old fashioned one.... and an absolute minor mod' to the design.. Just my 2 c's....

Re: Type of wire
Sorry, mate.. we have to agree to disagree... the Audiophools have been at this for years, with "this wire sounds better than that", "silver conductors sounds cleaner"... the list is endless... Not that I have anything against solid core from a technical POV.. my objections are mainly based o...

Re: Easy way to make a chassis
Well... that's a useful procedure.... making the tiny grooves where you want to fold is a very good idea.. steel or alu is just the same... Cheap or home made brakes will almost always have accuracy problems..... But of course... take your time, be accurate - or make a really good and accurate break...

Re: Type of wire
Solid core wire really has nothing to do in portable equipment. I agree with those suggesting teflon coated, mainly because of the higher temp's and voltages in tube based eqpt. Although I realise I may be shot down on this 8) , tonality of hook up wire is mostly imaginative, but given the fact of h...

Re: Options to replace odd cap value
I've spent my whole working life in electronics, ranging from audio to radar, with some electrooptics in between...
Gyrators has nothing to do in power supplys. Get caps at or slightly above the old value that needs to be replaced, with a suitable margin for voltage.

Re: Alternative cabinet materials
Interesting thought.... how about 1/8 ply panels with foam core glued in between, as a sandwich type panel..?? Should be quite a lot lighter than 3/4 ply or even gluelam...??
