Yes we think it is a faulty switch/pot. Thanks for the help Tom. I'll post the results when I get the switch.

Tom, It seems like bypassing the switch is fine. In fact it is bypassed almost all of the time. I am having a hard time engaging the switch and keeping it engaged (it disengages on its own) usually after a few seconds. When it is engaged, it sounds fine.
