Re: powering 5v relays with the filament supply.

I used a 100 Ohm resistor to connect my rectifier bridge to ground.
Like when you need a faux-centertap on the 6,3V, two 100 Ohm to ground.
My builds have two 6V relais that get about 5,7V.
They've never failed.

Re: Anybody running an RC Booster with Express?

I could, but I like the sounds I get with my current setup.
For playing live and rehersals its good enough for me.

I also use a MXR Phase 90 script logo and a MXR Carbon Copy in front of the amp.

Re: Anybody running an RC Booster with Express?

You are right about that. The amps natural distortion is the best. But, it comes at a volume that I simply can't use in a band setting. I have a Weber Mass attenuator, but I prefer to use that for recording with speaker impulses. The PPIMV helps, but then you loose the breakup of the powertubes. I'm...

Re: Anybody running an RC Booster with Express?

I use a Xotic BB pedal in front of my Express Clone. My Volume on the express is at 10:30 which gives me crunch chords with my guitar volume on 10. For solos with more gain I switch on the BB. Trainwreck Express clone into Weber Mass, speaker impulse 4x12" Greenbacks SM57: Guitar volume slightly rol...

Re: 6v6 express

If your plate voltage is between 390 - 400 V then you can set the 6V6GTs at 21 - 20 mA. If you have 400 - 410 V then set for 20 - 19 mA. These values will set you at roughly 70% dissipation. I use 6V6GT tubes in both my express amps. Google: weber bias calculator for more settings or other tubes.

Re: Best method for Express - PPIMV or VVR?

I use two PPIMV in my Express and I love it. One is always on, that is a type 2. Other one is footswitchable, switched on top of the first PPIMV and is a type 3. So I can tame the volume of the beast and set overall volume with PPIMV Type 2. For backing/chords I switch on the second PPIMV to lower t...

Re: New build, some problems.

Thanks Paulster, you were right! :D I desoldered the OT and attached a speaker to the OT (primary not connected) There was still the hum I had. So I moved the OT with speaker attached over the chassis and it got softer. Most quiet was in a straight line with the PT, but due to my shallow width chass...

Re: New build, some problems.

Just tested the mods, no tubes in the express.
Still hum thru the speakers on standby.

I also placed a bottomplate of a big effectsbox between the PT and OT, no difference
no matter how I place/hold the metal bottomplate

really weird problem

Re: New build, some problems.

I used a chassis with other dimensions so my trannies are not mounted the same way as an original Express. My PT is on the far left where the powerswitch and standbyswitch are, and my OT is rotated 90 degrees and placed in front of the powertubes. There is a 1 inch gap between the PT and OT. Current...

Re: New build, some problems.

Thanks to all. 8) Later today I hope to test the induction with a piece of sheet metal between the two trannies. If that doesn't work, I'll desolder wire by wire to find out what causes this hum. As for the warm PT, I got similar reactions on a dutch forum, heatercurrent supply. I'll just keep my ey...

I could still hold the PT with my hand, but the OT was cool in comparison to the PT.

New build, some problems.

I have started my second Express build and it works, no high pitch squeal or hiss and sounds great when testing on livingroom volume. This build I used better materials including Toneslut trannies. But I have two problems. 1. The PT was warm when I stopped playing (2 hours) on livingroom volume. OT ...

Re: express and master volume

I have two PPIMV installed in my Express clone. Both come from the Trainwreck pages. The first is a Type 2, this one is always on. The second is a Type 3, this one can be switched on/off with a pedal. When I want Cleaner sounds or play Lead, I use the first set at max level for the gig. When I want ...
