Re: 5F6a importance of output configuration

@Steve thanks a lot for the helpful link. i like the electro harmonix 6v6 a lot and like to try those first in my build. they are indeed voltage critical, other than eg jjs @rp good point, i will do @tubeswell don't tempt me :) idea on one pair of 6v6 was to save some power and weight(smaller trans ...

Re: 5F6a importance of output configuration

thanks for you opinion.
i'm going to design the power supply-6l6-like and just alter
the rectifier, tubes, and ot. so in case i want to, the upgrade would
be easy.

Re: 5F6a importance of output configuration

looks like my post is gone, so once more.. Hi again, i'd like to try a 5f6a bassman in 6v6 configuration. i thought about lowering voltage by using a 5y3. due to 6k6:2r trannies are rare i'd use a deluxe reverb-ot i still have in stock, which would require to wire the speakers in series/parallel con...

Re: LOUD!

If you are sitting directly in the speaker beam you are going to hear max harsness regardless of the amp used. i thought the same, when i read cobalts post. when i saw robert cray on stage last time (older steup: a tweed bassman instead of the vibro, if i remember correctly), the sound wasn't sound...

6v6 pp is opt 6k6, but 8k is ok as well.

Re: Whats your go to amp???

my twin reverb build is main gig amp.
the low power tweed super head build resides in rehersal room mainly.
currently building a non reverb chieftain head, can't wait to see how it messes up my habits

Hi Rog,

A Hammond 1760H maybe a better choice.

I know you said celestion, but if you have a chance to shoot a jensen neo tornado - that's also a good sounding lightweight speaker.

Re: any happy cathode biased d-style ampusers?

Here's a clip of my Tweed BluesMaster 50w, non-HRM, 5881's cathode biased. Kleinulator in the loop. OD only on this clip. amazing sweet singing! 8) Hi Baltar, my B+ is @ 430v. I ground the JJ's in pairs, each pair via a 470 ohm resistor bypassed with a 22uf 100v cap. Everything looks good on the sc...

Re: any happy cathode biased d-style ampusers?

@Dr D, just curious how much B+ do you run your 6v6?
I've read once, that cathode biased shouldn go higher than b+ of 350v.

@pullshocks, sounds like a cool setup. any clips? never heard 7591 myself

cheers, martin

Re: any happy cathode biased d-style ampusers?

Not a build, but the Fuchs ODS 30 is cathode biased. Nice squishy feel without being slow, if that makes any sense... cool, i didn't know that  Hi, I have a 4x6v6 Bluesmaster cathode biased. True to recent scheme/layout, only cathode biased. Sounds gorgeous to my ears and less strain on the J...
