Re: Fender 5E8-A choke mod
Triad has a lot of old catalogs online but all the chokes start with a C so I don't think 14684 is a Triad number unless there was a special number for OEM's. The closest thing I can find is the C16A, 10Hy 200mA 150 ohms. It's a pretty big part. Roughly a 3 inch cube with 4 mounting holes that weig...

Re: I call it the "Hound Dog Deluxe"
Very interst by your Vox préamp design, is there a topic somewhere to take a look on your amp technical details ? The parallel triodes is a realy good design to win more reponsive result but you should take care about de voltage drop on the anode resistor cause there is double current that cross it...

Re: I call it the "Hound Dog Deluxe"
Hey Mikka- I just finished a similar amp...2 6v6 in pure class A, about 10 watts. Mine is different as it has a very vox inspired, cathode follower-driven tone stack, with some tweaks for more lower mids. 10k plate load, about 260-265 on the plates. Right now it has a 12av7 input tube, parallel trio...

Re: Fender 5E8-A choke mod
My first question is what are the specs on your choke? Most chokes sold for Fender amps have too much resistance to be used before the OT connection. You would really like something like 2Hy, 50 ohms, 300mA. For a screen choke, 5 to 10Hy, 250 ohms, 50mA would be a better choice. FWIW- the choke Fen...

Re: Fizzy Princeton
I agree with Phil...dont you have anything else to sell? These aren't getting any cheaper.
I am still kicking myself for selling mine..I had a '66 also that just kicked ass. What a great telecaster amp.

Re: Contour switch for Vox/Marshall 18 Watt Project
What type of info do you seek? I believe this control just switches the coupling cap value off of the ef86 plate. Vox used it with the ac30/4 but it was only 2 positions...and Orange used it on their amps, the F.A.C. control....but they did it a bit differently I think. I would actually like to know...

Re: choke input filter hum
Well, I did these changes and the hum reduced signifigantly. I'm guessing the filtering on the first node did most of the trick, I bumped it to 100. Now i'm going to move the screens to it's own node and put some of its own filtering on that. I have almost 260 on the plates, running darn near or at ...

Re: choke input filter hum
David- The supply voltage directly after the choke is about 270v. Total current at full tilt is around 170mA. I have a 5k OT I want to try...I think im going to mount the ot in the center, and put the choke on the other side of the chassis, away from the PT. I'm also going to beef up that filtering ...

Re: choke input filter hum
...oh, and BTW, would this thing need to be air-gapped with all the current flowing through it? It's about the size of a 25 watt fender OT.
EDIT..contacted manufacturer and it is air gapped.

Re: choke input filter hum
Phil, I dont have a picture right now...but i'll try to explain. With the chassis on a table, facing the control panel trannies up, the transformers from right to left are: PT(laydown) mounted like you would see in a fender tweed, 2 inches from that is the open frame choke(2 bolt mount), than anothe...

Re: choke input filter hum
Hey skybolt- I have ac filaments in this one. Amp was dead quiet before with the standard clc network..HOWEVER..I just rushed this choke in to try it this way- so I left the choke leads uncut. The extra long leads are right up against the 6.3v leads up at the pilot light...hmm I'll chopstick it arou...

choke input filter hum
So I had a triad 14684 choke clone lying around...200mA, 125ohms, 5 henries. I had the crazy idea to try a choke input filter with a 2-5881, 3 12ax7 build. Sounds great but there is definitely power supply hum...the first filter after the choke is a 40uF with the OT CT and screens attached. So i'm g...
