Re: New Project, But first, I have some questions

I took a look last night to see if any were hiding in the HiFis I have. I didn't see any Sprague but there were some interesting black caps that werre labled Pyramid. Ever hear of those?

Re: New Project, But first, I have some questions

Thanks Phil,

Sound advice. I believe I will stick with the existing rectifier and see how it sounds.

What are black beauties?

I'm excited about this project. I'm going to shop around for some parts and I'll be sure to post my progress.

Back to the capacitors

I think I will stick with capacitors that I can follow a layout diagram more easily.

Thanks for your input. I think I'll order the parts I will need tonight. I fyo think of any other bright ideas please let me know.

Another thought....

What about keeping the two Output transformers and making a 5E3x2 stereo output?

Like I said...just a thought.

Re: New Project, But first, I have some questions

My other Salvaged HiFi runs a 5U4 rectifier tube. Along with (4) 6V6s and (1) 12ax7 phase inverter. Should I take that one into consideration given it rectifier tube, even though the chasis layout is a little more cumbersome? Or maybe just use it's Power transformer for the 5E3 in the other chasis? ...

Re: New Project, But first, I have some questions

Yes, I would like to use the power and output transformers. After thinking about it for a while, even though the chasis has a lot of potential, I would like to keep it simple (in the 5E3) area. What kind of filter cap would be suggested for a 5E3? That would make things a lot easier. Although I have...

New Project, But first, I have some questions

Hi Everyone, This is what I have going on..... The other day I scored an old HiFi console with the perfect chasis for a guitar amp conversion. The tube layout is great, it has (4) 6V6s, (2) 6EU7 that I believe are phase inverters (with an extra chasis punch for a third pre amp type tube), and it run...

Re: Newbie

Wow that's great. I've been learning as much as I can over the last couple of years and have finally decided that it is time to start a build. I recently savaged an old HiFi of it's power amp. I plan on using the transformers and other usable parts for my first build. It runs 4 6V6s so I shold be ab...
