Re: The Immortal Amplifier

Hi Colossal. I'd really be interested to hear more about that cathode Garter biased El34 amp! Don't know much about garter biasing. 🙂👍 Shane, My apologies; I did not see your post until now. I finished the amp probably a month ago or more now and have been playing it with my stereo rig which is lar...

Re: TriodeUSA TWE Kit

Mark,

If I were in your shoes, I would return it all and get a refund. We (this forum) can help you source quality components from reputable vendors. Triode has a less than spotless reputation and I have been personally burned by them in the past.

Re: Bruno Underground 30

345v at idle seems right for the late 70s amps. I've lowered the voltages to around 320-5v, using the 245v primary with 230v wall voltage (and a termistor, no standby switch, and ss rectifier) Thanks, that is very helpful. Regarding your rectifier, did you pad the secondaries with some resistance a...

Re: Bruno Underground 30

amp is good for clean tones and modest distortion. my old ac30 will blow it off stage anyday - way more aggression, punch, tightness and better distortion (although it sounds more unforgiving) Interesting. May I ask what the voltages are in your old AC30? Or what they should be for a JMI 4xEL84? I ...

Vox AC30 V1 biasing

Hello all: As many of have seen and built Trainwreck Rockets, ZWreck/Rocket variants, Big Bottle Rockets, and maybe even the Brian May minimalist variant, you know V1 (single triode) has a 220k plate load and a 1k5/22uF cathode bias in these amps. If we assume a 290VDC preamp supply (which you can s...

Re: Bruno Underground 30

Thanks Roe. I would be interested to know what the EL84 plate, screen, and cathode voltages look like. the voltages are on the uploaded schematic. it is like an ac30 except for slightly lower voltages and lower Z (3k3-3k8 probably) Thank you, Roe. Yes, I saw that. Voltages look similar to a Rocket ...

Re: 6 string guitar and Thiele cabs

Heres a link to my little Soundcloud if you are ever curious what the baritone sounds like into a Tonemaster Vox AC30 model- thats actually the Humbucker from Hell pickup in the neck position. https://soundcloud.com/philip-donovan-511698549/heartl_0132 So I decided to make the amp a 2 channel Fende...

Dan,

Very nice looking build. What kind of carbon film resistors are those?

Re: 6 string guitar and Thiele cabs

As I mentioned to you in the other thread you posted on this, I built a (massive) bass amp for a friend and it is paired with two 15" TL606 Thiele cabs each loaded with Eminence 15" speakers. The amp has four 6550s running in ultralinear for about 140Wrms. The entire power supply is choke filtered ...

how does one series/parallel 2 caps?
They are two 50uF + 50uF caps in the same envelope (F&T, ARS,etc).
