Re: fender style reverb footswitching

I'm just using standard DPDT switch to bypass the whole reverb circuit in my amp ('true bypass' like you would see in an effect pedal). It will soon be moved to a relay, using the exact same setup. I see that type of switching seems to be uncommon and I'm not sure why. In commercial amps sure, simpl...

Re: Contour/cut control - useless?

I like a noload pot to keep the vox cut control out of circuit since it loads the phase inverter slightly (you can hear the difference). I mostly keep it disconneced but sometimes it is good to have if the setup sounds overly bright in one application (e.g., telecaster at low volume). It is better ...

Contour/cut control - useless?

I’ve been using and tweaking a Two-Rock style contour setup on my #102-ish build for a long time and I’ve been unsuccessful enough that I’m starting to wonder whether the concept itself is flawed rather than just my implementation of it. To me it sounds good on paper - instead of using a presence co...

Re: It's awfully quiet around here...

The reality of it is that most of the Dumble designs have been dissected and stripped of their hype and the truth is that the man only made 5-8 variations on the ODS and a handful of other designs which were never popular enough to get past the single digit serial numbers. We can only talk about th...

Re: How do you install electronics on an ES335-style guitar?

I've done it through the F-hole (does the pickup rout even connect to that cavity?). I used a cardboard template to wire as much as possible before installing, leaving a lot of slack in the wires. Then I (poorly) tie strings to the pot shafts, which keep coming off when I try to pull them up through...

Re: Should One a a midrange control on their blackface Bassman?

I've tried it, and didn't find it to be particularly useful at all. There's only one setting which sounds good, and it's more of a volume control than a midrange control, anyway.

Re: Wierd Reverb Problem

I ran into the same problem on an ODS+fender reverb build. The reverb driver would distort at high preamp volume settings. I fixed it by removing the cathode bypass cap and adding a grid resistor - I went straight for 39k, but you should try a few different values (10k to 68k, maybe).

Re: Plug & Tweak

Nice idea for those Wima caps. I have used them before in pedals but not amps due to the short leads. Socket makes sense, quick change presto! :D I just solder some extra leads on them: [img:1011:319]http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a280/mr_hankey/IMG_1040.jpg[/img] It's probably not 100% as mecha...
