Re: Building a Rocket - Layout Check for group build
Hi everyone. I am an IRL friend of RJGuitars' and he has been talking about this project a lot lately so I thought I would stop in and say hello. There was some talk of which 3 out of the avilable 4 12ax7 triodes to use where. My inclination would be to use half of one tube for the cathode follower,...

Re: Choke Question
Another thought on the sag thing. The AC-30 is a bit more class A than the Marshall right? That would mean the current draw would be more consistent, and make the likely higher DCR of a big choke less audible. Maybe that is a real reason other than "what they could get thier hands on", which I admit...

Re: Choke Question
I think the fact that both amps used output transformers that they could get thier hands on cheaply says it all - they used whatever they could get! (not that there is anything wrong with that) In the power supply, the difference between a 3H and a 20H choke will be kinda like the difference between...

loudness
I think it is a really interesting point about "loudness" in an EQ sense and quiet amps. One thing that has revolutionized my thinking on speaker building is the notion of baffle step losses and how to EQ for them. Basically in a speaker you get a 6db loss of frequencies below a point determined by ...

Re: New push pull triode amp - Tubeless inverter
Here is what I was thinking. Let the interstage transformer drive the output tubes directly, and then use something with low plat impedance drive that. I was thinking initially of a paralleled 12au7 or maybe a cathode follower. But then I remembered the SRPP stage. I really don't like the sound of S...

Re: New push pull triode amp - Tubeless inverter
Hey guys, I just registered with the forum, and now I see the pictures :) I wanted to give a little background to why this design seemed to make sense. It is my theory/opinion/insanity that a guitar amp needs a phase inverter that is well balanced, and can deliver a bit of grid current when the outp...
