Re: too much noise from my OTS with single coils.
If you unplug the guitar and the amp is silent, then it's what's in front of the amp. Cable, shiledinging the guitar, or the pickups themselves. It's a very new American Standard Strat, ain't had but 2 string changes. I guess I better use that foil tape and sheild the cavity and pickguard, see if t...

Re: too much noise from my OTS with single coils.
I suppose it could be the build. Did you build it or did Nik build it. Is there shielded cable in the appropriate spots? Is the top of the amp chassis shielded. How high of quality are the guitar cords being used. With that said, single coils are always noisy. It can also depend where you are stand...

too much noise from my OTS with single coils.
Seems like there is more noise from this amp with my strat than with my other amps, 2 18watt amps, maybe its the higher gain?

Re: treble bleed?
Most interesting thing I'm finding is in this thread, is rolling off treble. Correct me if I'm wrong. Doesn't the entrance bass roll off that affects the OD tone more, are we heading toward the "tube screamer" approach for od issues. I have the Ceriatone and find treble side of the amp under contro...

Re: treble bleed?
Should these switches be the same, looks like a wiring difference. I know one is a slider and the other a toggle, is that why? Re: Anyone use foil tape for shielding in an amp?
Yea, I built an 18watt from GuitaramplifierPCBs that suggested the same thing, wrap a wire with solid core, seems to work.

Re: Middle control on Ceriatone OTS
It's a 250k audio.
To the amps defense I haven't had the chance to play it in a band at a reasonable volume.
And I'm not saying it soumds bad, not at all, it's actually one of the better sounding amps I've owned.
I just wanted to see how much range I could mget out of it.

Middle control on Ceriatone OTS
Not getting a lot of range from this one control.
The bass and treble start to be effective very early but I have to have both of them all the way down to hear what the middle control is doing to the tone, very subtle, is this normal?

Re: My Overtone will be complete by tommrow.......
Thanks for the replies, good and useful info here.
I built a simple cab for the head untill I can order something nice.
I'm done working on the insides, now I'm just gonna play the thing.

Re: My Overtone will be complete by tommrow.......
Power-up succesful :D No odd noise/smells/lights/meltdowns..Looks good and sounds very good. Cleans are clean and overdrive is sexy/creamy/elastic/growls like a dog protecting his food. Tone controls work as they should as well as the mini toggles. I think I have a good build, and I see (hear) why t...

Re: My Overtone will be complete by tommrow.......
Honestly thats a bit dangerous to go measuring if you dont know what it is or how to do it. That said once you know what your doing, its not that difficult. Should do some reading up on safety first. B+0 is directly off the rectifier. I suspect if nik assembled it all would be fine without checking...

What voltages do I check for and where.
I got an e-mail from Nik about B+= 440-460, if I knew where B+ was.
Yes, I'm a noob..

Re: Schematic vs Layout ?
The thing is, the can cap is really 3 caps (40uf-20uf-20uf/450v). If you look at the schematic, you will see the 4.7K and 10K resistors in the power supply ladder. These are on the layout, attached to the can cap terminals, lower left. It is easier to replace these resistors than to save them. Prob...

Schematic vs Layout ?
I've looked at these for awhile now and it doesn't seem to me they match, exactly, as far telling what is wired where. I need to replace the filter cap and can't figure out which wire goes where. It's very doughtful I'll be able to find an exact cap so I need to know how to wire it up to get the cor...
