i read a web article regarding dyeing wood to make the figures jump out...it's been a while so I forgot where I saw it....basically it's dyeing a darker color. then sanding it down almost to where the first tint is barely on the flames/figuring.....then a lighter dye on top.......i believe it is an ...

some updates....amp has been sorted out via siemens tubes, EI preamps, dana's VVR...as you can see from original post, this is a keeper ( project was started in 2007) ....deserved a new faceplate to go with it...LOTS OF THANKS to everyone who have helped me on this project...Dana Hall, Allyn Meyers ...

thinned my rockler piece w/ just an electric sander......sand,fit,sand, fit ....then voila! on a couple of builds, i've used bournes pots from steve at apexjr...got enough thread area and shaft length to use the rockler faceplate

if you have a local rockler store, they would have curly maple that is really thin......just a bit of sanding and you can squeeze it in

thanks guys...i had someone build the head for me ( I supplied the maple) and I finished it up w/ dye and lacquer....it has a lot of goof ups on closer inspection but can't complain at all .....only thing left is a choice of the faceplate and knobs ( was thinking of ebony or cherry w/ chicken head k...
