Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

So any update to provide on your build? Having built an Ultraphonix with two different channels, the second being a variation of a JCM800, I am curious to hear yours with the cascading gain. There is already a lot of gain on my build's second channel, and probably way too much for the kind of music...

Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

Happy New Year all! Chassis from Ceriatone arrived. Excellent work as usual. Pics attached. I sized my PT cutout a few .001" too small and will have to work it with a file, but that's nobody's fault but my own. Next step is polishing the panels and lettering followed by clearcoat. I was going to pai...

Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

hello moonlighter, thanks, I'll wait for a demo before I try to build one, I've learned over the years that each ear leads to different conclusions. With respect. Franco I'm flattered that you were willing to build along with me! This is a new design, and it's expiremental in nature, I don't expect...

Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

Hi Moonlighter, I'm following your project and I'm starting to not understand what you want to do. In any case I'm waiting for you to have built the amplifier and posted a demo. Thanks Franco Hey Franco, What I'm going for here is a 3 channel Ripper type amp. Our main circuit is a Marshall 2203, bu...

Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

Accumulated most of the components needed now, just some odds and ends left. Updated schematic labeled with what I actually purchased is attached. I've also changed the standby switch to a Merlin Blencowe approved variant. This is better for the life of the switch and offers a "soft start" for the r...

Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

Chassis is drawn up, will verify and send the drawing to Nik tomorrow. I've decided to go for a lay-down Dumbleland look, with a 23.75" width chassis, similar to an ODR. I also think I'll paint the front and back panels (like I used to for pedals) and ink transfer the lettering. OD150WX for reference:

can you use this file? it was sent to me by a generous guy from TAG.

Thank you Franco! I'll be adding these to my library.

I'm going to have the second tonestack controls on the outside though, so I'll have to use an SSS sized chassis with 9 knobs on the front  .

Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

Majority of the parts are now ordered. Have to design the chassis, and then will probably contract Ceriatone for the fab like with the ODR.

I also have to design the power supply boards... probably the least fun part of any project.

Zoomed in and sharpened. Still hard to tell, but it seems more apparent it's a second cable with a metallic shell.

A Lead Series 1987 makes most sense, agreed.
But in the second photo we see it's not stock, there's a knob replacing one of the high inputs. This is common in Arredondo modded amps, but I'm curious if that is really the case here.

Jeff Beck Arredondo JCM800?

I stumbled across these photos again after seeing them for years, but something stuck out to me this time that I had never noticed before. There appears to be what I'm assuming is an Arredondo modified 2203, likely Beck's knowing he used them (JCM800 Series) frequently. Unless it has some other mods...

Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

I have now successfully made it out of the pool and into the ocean. I'm not really sure this falls under the Dumble-style umbrella anymore, maybe "inspired by" is most fitting. Regardless, schematic attached. There is now a footswitchable Crunch mode added to the Clean channel. So now we have Clean ...

Re: The Tartan Suit - 60W Ripper Design

Why not try the cathode driver (as in some SSS circuits)? Or at least make a comparison of the two. I only have 1/2 of a 12AX7 available, otherwise I would. I also would like to keep this simpler than my ODR; a traditional Bassman only uses 4 preamp tubes and that's a fun design restriction to keep.
