I tried reversing the OT secondary leads and got a hugely loud low oscillation so it's not that...

Re: Princeton Reverb tremolo squeal
Hi Sluckey
Yes, that seems to have stopped it. I can't see that high frequency on the frequency analyser anymore. So what does that mean is wrong? Can you suggest a fix?

Princeton Reverb tremolo squeal
Hi, I stripped and rebuilt a Fender '68 Custom Princeton Reverb with a Deluxe Reverb Output Transformer and a 150mA Upgrade Power Transformer (APD-2000H) made by Heyboer. I love it! Sounds fantastic BUT there is a really high-pitched squeal when I turn up the Tremolo Intensity knob. So high-pitched ...

I made Sluckey's AC30/4 lite!
Hey guys Merry Xmas. I'm just following up as I actually made Sluckey's ac30/4 lite build. I'm thrilled with the way it sounds... however there are a couple of small issues. 1) It's a bit noisy. Once the rectifier warms up there's a noticeable 60hz hum. It's not a deal-breaker but it's more than I w...

Re: PT for AC30/4 build
Ok Thanks. Looks like I should save up for a new PTlooks good but originals used 82R, not 50R - although the latter sounds better to me. Also, higher mains and screens filtering is normally a good idea. Mains should be at least 32uf, screens at least 22uf (max 32 imho)

Re: AC30/4 build
I've got a Vox AC30 transformer set and have been wanting to build a single channel EF86-based AC30/4 type amp for while. It's a neat amp and has a unique sound. There are some noteworthy modern derivatives such as the Dr. Z Stangray (EF86) and DB4 (5879) (both amps now discontinued) and of course ...

PT for AC30/4 build
Hi I'm planning to convert an amp I have into an AC30/4 type amp with just a normal channel (no vibrato). The amp currently has a Hammond 372HX PT in it. It's specs are: 300-0-300 @ 230mA 191VA, 600V @ 230mA, 50V BIAS Filament 1- 5V C.T.@ 3A, Filament 2 - 6.3V C.T. @ 6A... Do you think this will wor...

Re: Supro 1600 Supreme power rating
Hmm... I thought as much. The add says "Supreme features a pair of parallel gain stages fed into a shared tone knob. This versatile, dual-input preamp allows two instruments to share the same combo amplifier, as well as providing the convenient option of plugging a single instrument into IN1+2, for ...

Supro 1600 Supreme power rating
Hi
I just bought a used Supro 1600 Supreme. Great tone but was slightly disappointed at the lower-than-expected headroom/volume of a (supposedly) 25W amp. Then I wondered how a pair of 6V6s in cathode bias could possibly put out 25W?? Seems improbable, right?? Can anyone explain how that works?

Re: Vox AC15HW mods to sound "boutique"?
Thanks Colossal- good suggestions. I'll give them a try - esp interested in the anti-fizz mods you suggest. I changed the the V1 cathode bypass cap from 22uf to 2.2uf and that seems to have sorted out the boomy bass. I'm also thinking of halving the tone cut cap to allow more mids in when the treble...

Re: Vox AC15HW mods to sound "boutique"?
Hi. Thanks for the reply. I have the AC15HW1x which is different to the one you have attached (the AC15TV). They're probably similar but mine has no EF86 channel - it's all 12ax7s with this amp. I use the normal channel as a pedal platform for a strat. I find there is too much bass which I can't dia...

Vox AC15HW mods to sound "boutique"?
Hi, I've just bought an AC15HW1x amp.It sounds good but what I really wanted was a vox-based "boutique" style amp (like a Top Hat, Dr Z or 65 amps) but I live in Australia and those amps are prohibitively expensive here. My question is, are there some simple (reversible) mods I can make to the circu...

5E3 to 6G3 conversion
Hi
I'm wanting to convert my 5E3 clone into a 6G3 (without tremolo). Is anyone here able to tell me what I need to do? Is this relatively simple or a big job?
Thanks
JM
