Re: Solo boost

Skip, Thanks for the learning experience. I think I better stick to the SS solution. I've been thinking about a volume boost option (I know that's completely different form the gain boost we were discussing before). MES@ has this boost option in the FX loop. I'm using a built in Dumbleator in my amp...

Re: Solo boost

That layout is for an entire amp. He does have a pedal stomp-box in one of the other projects using 2 12AX7's and a backwards flatpak transformer. I have used the same power source for a Dumbleator and another preamp tube gizmo and it works great. Whatever you do, if you are using a tube, be sure y...

Re: Solo boost

If the thing is going to be footswitchable anyway and you're guaranteed a box attatched by cable to the amp, where's the harm in a pedal, provided it gives the sound/function desired? Not trying to be antagonistic, just asking. This amp is for a friend of mine. He just wants everything in the amp. ...

Re: Solo boost

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't want an external boost pedal for this amp.
On the Hoffman website is a schematic for a simple gain boost that I'll use.

Re: Solo boost

I decided I want two master volumes. I'm using the "rich mod" PPIMV. How do I make two dual ganged pots switchable with a relais?

edit: I realize I'd need a 5PDT relais for that. This amp has an FX loop, so wouldn't it be easier to add a switchable pot in the loop?

Yeah, I kinda figured that out, but what would be the best location? after the FX loop or a 2nd MV? I have a PPIMV with a dual ganged pot.

Re: PT question

Thank you all so much for these replies. I expected to get a yes or no, but instead I learned alot. I really appreciate that. I created an amp that is everything I always wanted and a few guitar playing friends seem to like it too, as I have to build a few more. Basically it's a slightly modified Ko...

PT question

I have this Hammond 350-0-350 170mA PT . Can I use this with 4x12AX7's and two Tung Sol 6L6 tubes (solid state rect.)?

I looked at the tube data sheets, but I'm still confused.

thanks,
Coen

Re: Solo boost

Thanks for your suggestions. I found a schemo at Hoffmanamps.com that looks promising.

What would be the best way to have a footswitchable volume boost?
The guy now wants a gain and a volume boost... :x

Re: Solo boost

thanks for your reply, but I'm definately not looking for a PAB. I just want a switchable booster right in front of the pre-amp.

Solo boost

Hi all, I'm building an amp for a friend of mine and he wants an internal boost in his amp for solo's. So, not a volume boost, but a gain boost. pretty much like what you'd get if you put a tubescreamer or any other drive pedal in front of your amp. Can anyone point me to a schematic I could use? I'...

"Drive" on clean channel

Are HRM's easier to overdrive on the clean channel than non-HRM's?
I can't overdrive my clean channel with my strat. I've heard various clips of HRM amps that are overdriven with a strat though.
