Yes Phil, I did not get the volume/tone right.

Sure enough, someone had removed that cap. But I would have not figured that out. I should have figured it out, looking at other schematics but if the thing runs I thought it was OK. See attached. I installed the new cap and the thing just rocks! Before this it would play ok at some volumes but not ...

Wow this is great. There is no cap there. But I am looking at the wire to the tube pin and and solder and it is not done well or original. So I am going to add in a cap in that place and see what happens.

You have pointed out that this is a grid leak design. I have a wiring diagram (Beltone AP-A) with the same tubes as the Takt. And I that I think, is cathode biased.
Is there an advantage to either or just different?

One rectifier needed to be reversed.
