Re: Fender Blues Jr IV: crackling noise -> no sound
No offence taken, I'm happy to admit it's not my speciality. I bought this amp off somebody on the assumption it needs a tube change, though that wasn't the case. I'm currently around $70 into this and would love to try out a few easy fixes. If I think it's going to be difficult (which I suspect it ...

Re: Fender Blues Jr IV: crackling noise -> no sound
C1 is a capacitor, right? What do you recommend for shorting the two? Some thicker insulated wire? Sorry, I'm quite basic when it comes to electronics. By the way, remember reading some advice to disconnect one of the preamp tubes for diagnostic purposes but not sure that is true, which one or what ...

Re: Fender Blues Jr IV: crackling noise -> no sound
Is it possible to sidestep the volume pot, shorting it to run at 10'? Just for testing

Re: Fender Blues Jr IV: crackling noise -> contact cleaner -> no sound
Need to research the lubrication part.
Some extra pointers. No noise coming through when playing the guitar but just grabbing the guitar chord leads to hum.
In addition, shaking the amp leads to the usual amplified reverb spring noise. Some issue in the preamp section?..

Fender Blues Jr IV: crackling noise -> no sound
Bought a Blues JR IV off somebody. It crackled occasionally when playing and every time you use the volume pot or the "Fat" button. The seller said he hasn't tried changing the power tubes despite buying a new pack (which I bought off him too). This wasn't really true – the 'new' tubes he sold along...

Sorry for a dumb question but is "Power Soak" a specific model? Bugera PS1 Power Soak?

Re: 8 ohm amp -> 4 ohm attenuator -> 8 ohm speaker – asking for trouble?
Thanks for the reply! Any idea if putting an impedance matching transformer in front of the attenuator is still a bad idea? Not sure I'm that keen to search for a replacement 12' 4ohm speaker though

8 ohm amp -> 4 ohm attenuator -> 8 ohm speaker – asking for trouble?
Hi, My main amp is a Hughes & Kettner Statesman Dual EL84 20W – nice but loud! I'd like to use an attenuator to tame it a bit. The external speaker out is 8/16 ohm and the built-in speaker is 8 ohm. I also have a THD Hot Plate attenuator (4ohm) which is meant to be very good but would lead to impeda...

Re: Impedance-matching transformer – any cons?
Thanks, might be a fun project to do! In practical terms, are most passive attenuators basically the same?

Also think it's a fair comment re 8' speaker. Hoping to try out both and see if I still need a cab

Re: Impedance-matching transformer – any cons?
My impression so far is that it is pretty loud to get to a high-gain 'Marshall' sound but... I don't really play that much high-gain stuff. It also has a low (0.5w?) / high output modes but I must admit that it's pretty loud at high-gain low-out mode. I was considering getting a cheap attenuator lik...

Re: Impedance-matching transformer – any cons?
Good to hear! I don't really have a good sense of how resilient are amp transformers and other forums made me somewhat scared (though I'm sure everyone is just passing on dogmatic statements they read on other forums themselves)

Impedance-matching transformer – any cons?
Hi, I managed to get a new Marshall Origin 5C for a very decent price. The most controversial part of the amp seems to be the tiny 8' speaker that it's equipped with. I'm lucky to have a 1x12' cab equipped with a Celestion v30 8 ohm speaker which I was hoping to use with the amp. Unfortunately, the ...

Re: Help needed IDing a Champ-like head
Yes, it's fair. All a part of the chain, so will make some difference Any advice on which mass-produced mini-head or mini-amp is the most Champ like? Fame JTA-05 was mentioned but didn't find any for sale. Laney Cub8 gets mentioned on other forums but kind of contradictory if it has anything to do w...
