Re: Board construction opinions?

TopHat_Guts1.jpeg Most of my amps have been built with the double turrets, a couple with eyelets. Never done point to point, don't like the aesthetics of it. TopHat uses a quasi P to P approach using garolite terminal strips... It's rugged for sure, and looks MUCH nicer than P to P. TopHat_Guts1.jp...

Re: NEW EXPRESS BUILD !!!

VERY nice work! Should have built it inside out so it could be seen while playing, lol.
Why did you use a terminal strip? Seems like an issue just waiting to surface.

Re: When EL34s become EL84s ..... ?

A quick easy way (if you're in a hurry) with what you most likely have on hand would be what Glenn suggested: to cut a strip of aluminum, punch out the holes for a 9-pin socket on the same centers as the holes in your chassis. Then mount that strip on your chassis over the existing octal socket knoc...

Re: 6112/6aq5 'wreck

Those aren't 12AT7's, they're 6112's, and they're not on stilts....these tubes have flying leads. The 6112 is very close tho the 12AT7 in terms of gain.

I edited the post to reflect the 6112's which are actually what are in the amp. I mistakenly said 6021 to begin with....too many numbers in my head!

6112/6aq5 'wreck

I've had several PM requests for information about a hybrid that I put together a couple years ago. I thought I'd just post about it here in a thread. This amp is based on the A4 version 'wreck schematic originally from the Blue Guitar collection. The PS was designed using PSUD, and has lower voltag...

Re: Who are we? Let's get to know each other!

Dave H here. 45 yrs old, I repair and maintain large machining equipment as my day gig. I love old hot rod Harleys (pans and shovels), korina and humbuckers, and 70's -80's hard rock and metal. I've been building and doing tube amp repairs as a hobby for over 5 years, and have recently gotten drawn ...

Heh, I remember him....it's amazing how self-absorbed some can become. Wasn't he trying to sell tech help (or something like that) too?

A little dab of clear RTV works well for this, and looks MUCH better.

Re: How did you reach stability..?

the Komet pics showed use of shielded wire, so personally I'm not so sure that it would necessarily be bad for the sound. Why would shielded wire sound bad? You have 20' of it in front of the amp, so there's no way that an additional 6" is going to adversely affect anything. I use the small diamete...
