I agree Shanedawg mine is on the dark side as well. I attribute it more to being bassy rather than lacking highs. I found I like the amp better with some of my brighter cabinets though.

When I dropped the snubbers down to 50pF the overdrive was way more gritty and aggressive, which to me went to far. Pulled it out last night. Dropped the snubbers down to 50pF and hated it, went back up to 300pF so a small drop from what was there but this way it still had the smoothness. Got my amp today and spent a few hours with it. Only complaint I have thus far with the tone is there is a bit of sizzle on the top end I’m not a huge fan of. Going to grab a different cab and try later to make sure it isn’t the speakers. Still a solidly giggable amp as is.

I have one of these incoming. For the price I dont think theres another option close.

My question is what is your guys opinions on the most bang for the buck mods for these amps? Swapping caps to 6PS? Resistors to Carbon or Metal FIlm? Making it value wise identical to the 183 schematic?

That has to be one of the most expensive touring rigs on the road right now.

Currently I started building an Express with a more traditional Fender style power section. Only doing this because I had the power section built already in a chassis. Once this is done and working I still plan on building the accurate circuit version.

That's probably going to be the route I take. I may sit down and draw up the layout with all on one board as well not sure yet.

Yeah I have the original design as built by Ken was trying to see if anyone had modified the design to use a single board instead of the 2 boards one for the preamp and phase inverter and the other for the rectifier and power supply stuff. I am a little OCD and prefer one single board.
