Re: Might be heresy - but will this PT be ok on a TW build?
Thanks for the replies. I should probably clarify that I'm interested in this PT not only as a Trainwreck PT. I really want a platform for experimentation, and noticed that the website specifically mentioned Trainwreck as an option. So I figured I'd ask the gurus if it was really suitable, or more o...

Re: Magnetic Components Inc's Convertible PT... users/opinions?
That's true... it won't support a 5U4, which requires 3a capacity. Wonder why they didn't cover that...VacuumVoodoo wrote:Not too bad but 5V winding current rating of 1.9A is on the low side. 3A is more usable if you want to run a wider selection of rectifier tubes.

Re: jmp 50watt with magnetic components transfomer set
Wow what a timely post! I'm getting ready to build the same amp into an oversized 1x12 cab loaded with a Scumback! It's great to get your take on the transformers before I take the plunge. Did you just use their transformers, or their whole kit? I'm considering the entire kit. Hi, The transfomers a...

Re: Pacific TW xformers used in a different topology (ie Plexi)?
Thanks Paulster. I was planning on using a 16-ohm cab. There won't be issues will there? Or tone degradation due to the different impedance?

Re: Pacific TW xformers used in a different topology (ie Plexi)?
RJ, Thanks for the reply! I found the post you specified. Mouthwatering! Nice work indeed. I will very likely be moving forward with this build. There is a bit of research I'll need to do, but I like the idea of buying the set and being able to possibly build both circuits around it and switching ba...

Pacific TW xformers used in a different topology (ie Plexi)?
Hi all, I've been lurking for awhile, and I'm getting ready to build a 1x12 nmv combo. I was leaning towards a trainwreck express, but now I'm on the fence and may go the plexi route. But the 30w nmv is where I want to stay. Will the Pacific trainwreck trannies serve me well with a Marshall Plexi pr...

Re: Hum in my Dave Hunter "Two-Stroke" build (First Po
For the uninitiated, implementing a ground scheme can be daunting. It looks to me as if you simply picked the most convenient local chassis bolt and that simply isn't a scheme. The probable result is that you have a ground loop. Others have already pointed this out. IMO, what you should do is relat...

Re: Hum in my Dave Hunter "Two-Stroke" build (First Po
Since you have plenty of chassis space, you could add another filter and put a choke in. That should dramatically reduce power supply ripple. Rich, I've considered this. However, I figured I probably have a real problem (i.e. ground loop or otherwise), and didn't want to take this approach until I ...

Re: Hum in my Dave Hunter "Two-Stroke" build (First Po
OK... I started easy first. A couple of these were quick and easy, so I tried them first. I'll post inline to some of the original responses. It looks like your first two filter cap grounds and the power transformer centertaps are not grounded at the same point. Try moving your centertap wires over ...

Wow - I'm overwhelmed by the great responses!
I'll spend a little time absorbing these, and post replies over the weekend as I try them.

Hum in my Dave Hunter "Two-Stroke" build (First Po
Hi everybody. Long time lurker, first time poster. 8) I am posting this here because you guys seem to have the market cornered on hum reduction. There are plenty of amp building furums on the net that I frequent, but you guys seem to be the "top dogs" so to speak! First, a little background. I dove ...
