I had a hum problem on a BF Deluxe I built and adding the extra cap on the Bias output cleaned it right up. Very cheap hum insurance.
I never thought about adding the small poly cap, but it also makes good sense. Thanks Gary!

Re: HOW TO GET YOUR CHASSIS!!
Let's just say those of you waiting will be rewarded for your patience. I just unboxed my chassis and am astounded by how good it is. I've got plenty of professionally fabricated metal chassis at work that cost three times this and aren't half as good. Have you ever considered fabricating general pu...

Re: Discussion with Paul from Mercury Magnetics
I guess there is always mythology associated with someone who has built amps that sound so good when played by such notable players. I can't validate what Paul said, but it does seem the man has an ear for what's good. Its probably also fair to attribute some of the credit to the players themselves....

Discussion with Paul from Mercury Magnetics
All, I ordered a set of iron from Mercury today and had the pleasure of talking with Paul in great detail about Dumble, his amplifiers and so forth. I ended up buying a Blackface Twin PT, the 100W BF Twin OT with 4/8/16 Ohm taps and a Blackface Twin Choke. First it seems that the Mercury team is goo...

Re: HOW TO GET YOUR CHASSIS!!
I set two alarm clocks and was glad I did.
Is the preferred transformer set for a 100W still the Mercury Dynaco OT and Mercury Blackface Twin for PT and Choke?
Does the Dynaco have 4,8 and 16ohm taps.
Thanks funk. I can't wait to see the chassis.

Re: Chassis make and material
I would just like to add one comment... When you put tons of time any money into a build and you start with a Bud or Hammond project box you end up with something that still looks and feels like a science project (no value implied here). I'm not smart or experienced enough to make claims that there ...

Re: NEW CHASSIS RUN!!
I'll take a set with punched Garolite. As a practicing electrical engineer, let me assure you that to build something of this quality in small quantities would be cost prohibitive. I just placed a PO at work for a small punched and bent steel cover about the size of a Fender cap can and in the small...

Re: Totem Pole PS Filter Caps...Hopefully a final word
David, I would be interested in your feedback once you get the new amp up and running. The use of small bypass caps in parallel with a larger one is usually to compensate for the poor performance of large caps at higher frequencies. It is very common in almost all electrical designs with DC power su...

Re: Totem Pole PS Filter Caps...Hopefully a final word
I guess my point is that if you do only use a single cap, you should be able to get any sort of transient effect by placing a 440k bleeder resistor across the cap. From a network theory perspective they are the same. I can understand using the totem pole on the first stage (since the peaks of the AC...

Totem Pole PS Filter Caps...Hopefully a final word
I've had the great pleasure of reading though all of your posts and have learned a tremendous amount about Dumbles. I've built about 10 amps and thought it was finally time to go for it on an ODS and have been experimenting with a 18W clone that I never really liked. I've been planning a more formal...
