Re: Using all metal film vs carbon film resistors in a pedal
I only use metal film in the signal chain for pedals and amps. I can't stand the hiss that carbon resistors create.

Re: 6v6 maximum safe plate and screen voltage
I have run JJ 6v6 at 450 volts but to my ears it didn't sound as good as when run at 350 volts.

Re: Correct Size Knock Out Hole Punches
I tried hole saws and did not like using them. You have to deal with the pilot bits breaking and it is difficult to extract the metal from inside the hole saw. Also, in my opinion, hole saws are too dangerous. A friend loaned me his Greenlee knockout punches and they were good, but I decided I like ...

Re: No More Tubes Made in China
I am sad that I wont be able to get the Chinese 6V6s. I could get a matched set for less than 30 dollars US. They sound great, but I guess I won't be getting any more.

Re: Tube Chassis Layout
I have used Ceriatone Layouts as a guide to build some of my amps. They have pictorial layouts for most of their amps. I have always had good results following their layouts. Mike as an FYI many of the ceriatone amps were directly cribbed from the amps here :D. I.e. you're saying their layouts look...

Re: 6v6 Wreck layout...eyes needed
I have used this transformer from Antique Electronics for two 20 watt builds. Output Transformer primary impedance is 6.6K and has 8 and 16 ohm taps. Primary impedance is the same as a trainwreck transformer. Both of the amps built with this transformer have high gain Marshall preamps and sound incr...

I also see the missing grommet. Are there other missing grommets under the PS Board?
It looks great.

I don't twist my heater wires and I have built two identical high gain marshall style amps that are very quiet.

Re: Soldering Tips and Technics by Dr Z
I liked the video and took some notes: • Use NASA grade solder such as Kester .031” • Avoid cold solder joints • Use good solder station. Get one that is temperature controlled such as Weller WES51 • Change the soldering iron tip every 40 to 80 hours of use. • Strip, twist, and tin wire. When tinnin...

Re: Tube amp grounding article/info/links
I have read multiple times on this forum and other forums that the preamp should be grounded at the input jack. Does that mean that the preamp ground is through the mechanical connection of the input jack? To make a good ground, you would have to tighten the jack pretty tight to get a good enough co...

Re: Do not order from Wattstubeaudio
Hi Mike I stock this chassis on this page http://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/ChassisMobile.htm It may be what you are looking for? http://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/images/IMG_8591.JPG I just finished building a high gain "Jose Marshall" 25 watt amp and it has no detectable hum. The reason...

Re: Do not order from Wattstubeaudio
I only order chassis from him and it always takes a long time. I ordered 10 days ago and the status is still "Processing". I have always had this kind of delay from Watts, but I can't find a better deal on aluminum chassis. 17.5x8x2.5 chassis is 44.00 plus shipping. Does anyone know of a better sour...

Re: 60/40 solder. What brand
My Dad was a TV repairman and he had several pounds of Kester solder from the 50s. I inherited the solder when he died in 1973. I have used about 2 pounds of it and still have about a roll and a half. Still good after all these years. Great solder. I have also used Radio Shack solder and it was good...
