Re: "too many requests errors" on this site
It's bots or the like spamming/DDoS'ing the site or hosting provider. I've suggested the owner of the domain/site should consider moving to a different hosting solution many times in the past but he's not interested. It's a shared hosting setup, so not even on it's own 'host' but instead multiple ot...

Re: errors on the forum last couple of days...
This is annoying and unfortunate. I imagine that fixing it requires some expense, and may increase the cost of keeping the forum up and running going forward, which the owner is not willing to absorb. Ads or member subscriptions (neither of which anybody wants), are potential sources of funding. A ...

Re: errors on the forum last couple of days...
Both are basically because the hosting provider has no attack throttling measures so there's some kind of bot spamming the site so much it hits some max capacity allowed per 'time window' not sure if that's per minute or what, Nothing we can do here because the site domain owner doesn't want to do a...

Thread deleted about Rick Wheeler
I was contacted by Rick Wheeler stating this post was not authorized by him, contained a picture of him and false information about him. He requested it be removed immediately. I did so. I noted Rob also mentioned in the thread that it was false information and between those two I felt strongly enou...

Re: Known Problems with the Site
Lauri, That assumes they've setup the site to even allow this. Since it's shared, there may be 100 different sites on the same server. They may or may not even allow htaccess settings at the site level. I've not spent a ton of time digging into this mainly because I already have volunteered a ton of...

Re: Known Problems with the Site
If they're doing what I think, all they need is ANY page and the login page is one of them. They can just constantly load the login page and it will slow down the site and cause issues. Due to the fact that the hosting provider doesn't seem to be doing anything proactive to catch/stop this it just ...

Re: Known Problems with the Site
Hello Phil -- One of the newer hosting service infestations are automated "content" harvesters collecting training data for feeding LLM training. Like the search scanners of old but people tell me there are many more active, they less well behaved, and making more frequent sweeps. If this is indeed...

Re: Known Problems with the Site
Oh I hadn't noticed that, may be the cause? At any rate, though, it's still happening to me today. Maybe someone performing a form of DDoS? I can barely get pages to load at this point.

Re: Known Problems with the Site
Looks like the site right now is having major issues with either the hosting provider under a DDOS attack or their servers are just having a really hard time handling traffic, I keep getting throttled when I try to load pages.

Re: Error 429 Too many requests
Sorry just found this while cleaning up a user. I would think this is more likely a problem with the hosting provider, they're pretty horrible. I doubt sluckey is suddenly posting more than he ever has in the past :) I honestly don't have a ton of time to look into logs etc. I try to do the bare min...

Re: Richter's not coming down for breakfast
FYI I figured I'd post here, Kurtus asked that I delete his account and all posts. It's been done.
I asked xtian and he felt his posts were a landmine of bad information for users and should likely be removed to clear up any risk there. I'll delete the other threads entirely as well.

Re: possible problems with the hosting provider or database
Ahh gotcha, also if you see accounts that are older and temporarily deactivated, it's because they updated something like their email address... usually I just reactivate the account at that point.
Whew I was starting to think something was really going off on the site.
