Re: Echolette M40 hum

I've spend some more time on the amp without real succes. The new tubes didn't fix the hum, so I decided to just disconnect the first stages and first get the powerstage quiet. These are the results: - No tubes is no sound - Only powertubes gives my a bit of 50Hz hum, but I think thats normal - With...

Re: Echolette M40 hum

Well, I spend a lot of time on the amp, but the hum still remains. It was and is actually both 50 hertz and 100 hertz noise, and the 100Hz is adjustable by the master volume knob. I replaced all of the single core ground wires (but kept the layout) hoping there was a break somewhere, but this didn't...

Re: Echolette M40 hum

I raised the H1 heaters to about 46V above ground like so (the top one):

But this didn't help.

Re: Echolette M40 hum

Poking around didn't help, here's an image of the amp: http://i.imgur.com/ztFANLU.jpg I don't get your cathode tip, the cathodes of the power tubes are directly grounded themselves right? So how would this elevate the voltage of the heaters? I believe that this would only work in a cathode biased se...

Re: Echolette M40 hum

I measured it on my scope and got a 50 hertz signal.

I also noticed that when I turn my main volume up beyond 8 there suddenly is a loud popping sound (from the speaker), like some kind of feedback maybe. I don't think that this was there a couple of months ago when I put the amp away.

Echolette M40 hum

Hey guys, I bought an echolette m40 from my local ebay site and did some work on it, but I can't get rid of the hum. What I did so far: - Set the voltage selector so that the heaters now get 6.3VAC - Replaced all of the old electrolytes - Replaces some tube sockets - Inspected the grounding A shemat...

Re: Which type of PI for the john mayer tone

I think that I'll try modelling it after an early fender then, and try the dumble with a different amp. What do you guys think of this fender deluxe in terms of tone? Re: Which type of PI for the john mayer tone

I plan on developing my own tone along the way, but as a starting guitar player, playing a lot of john mayer songs, I figured this would be a decent starting point. Hearing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbfZH3aATTg I figured that I could get reasonably close with just an amp (close enough to...

Re: Which type of PI for the john mayer tone

Mostly a signature Two Rock amp, which seems to be mixed with several fender amps (including the blues junior).

Which type of PI for the john mayer tone

I own a geloso 1040 amp that I'm converting to sound more like the sound of john mayers amp in the continuum album. The first thing that I would like to do is change the PI into a long tailed pair setup. But after which amp should I model it, I was thinking about a fender, but which one? I myself wa...
