Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Have you tried taking the preamp tubes out of the deluxe and swapping for the tubes in the super. If the super gets noisy then you know or can rule out the tubes. There are a lot of noisy tubes around. I have had 10 of 10 JJ tubes so noisy i couldn't use them. Did that early on. I've had several kn...

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
perhaps you have dirty power in your area. What Hz is the noise? I don't own a scope, so not sure what Hz the noise is, BUT I'm comparing the noise level on my Deluxe to my Super Reverb which is sitting right next to it, plugged into the same outlet. The Super is VERY quiet (I went through it a few...

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Two post ago you said that it was only observed on the vibrato no? That was an error on my part. Have to have something plugged into the input to observe it. Anyhow, I still feel like this Amp idles with more noise/hiss in the Vibrato channel than other old Fender amps I've owned/played/worked on, ...

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
AC ripple is as follows (measured between pin 1 & ground, then pin 6 & ground, while idling, all controls down, AC voltage test on my auto-ranging true RMS meter) pin 1 pin 6 v1 0.00VAC 0.00VAC v2 0.00VAC 0.00VAC v3 0.04VAC 0.04VAC v4 0.00VAC 0.00VAC v5 0.05VAC 0.05VAC v6 0.08VAC 0.12VAC Anything re...

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Lets try to pin this down to what gain stage the issue is starting with, if you pull out tube V2 does all of the Vibrato channel issues stop? Also before you yank out V2 take a meter set for ac volt and measure the power supply ripple voltage on the plate side of V2a and V2b and report back with ho...

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Sorry to be absent!!! Been sorting a new guitar & took a little break from fiddling w/ the DR.
I did pull V2 as requested, which mutes the Vibrato channel entirely, so no real info/answers there as the Normal channel always sounds lovely. . .

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Service Bulletin #9'd the trem ticking w/ a .01 cap, thats gone & sorted now. Ran the amp for a bit on the bench & used a plastic tool to nudge leads looking for anything that seemed to change - didn't really find anything. I *have* noticed that V2 is fairly microphonic regardless of which tube I ha...

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Update: well, I'm sure this was a step in the right direction, but its still hissier/buzzier than I think it SHOULD be. . . and I managed to pick up some nasty clicking/ticking w/ the vibrato on. D'oh!!! Would sound samples comparing noise levels of the two channels be helpful? Should I wrap the lin...

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Alright! My apologies for the diminished quality of the "progress pic", but I wanted to show what I've done & ask for a little more clarification on grounding the set of three caps. . . [img:800:600]http://delaraspelle.com/misc_pix/67_deluxe_reverb/filter_caps_progress.jpg[/img] I've removed the wei...

Thanks for the clarification - will drain the caps, flip the board, ditch the yellow wire & report back with pix. . .

Re: '67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Finally got a little time to fuss with this some more - I'm quite convinced the noise level on the Vibrato channel is higher than it should be. Comparing to a '69 Super Reverb (that I went through a few years back & has since been my primary amp) its several times the noise - the Super is damn quiet...

'67 Deluxe Reverb, noise in Vibrato Channel
Recently acquired a lovely early '67 BF Deluxe Reverb. Came to me nearly perfectly original down to the tubes, 2-prong cord, speaker, etc. Had a vented Mallory in the dog pan, plan to keep the amp long-term so I decided to give it a solid "shotgun blast" right off the bat. I've done: 1) 3-prong cord...

Beautiful!!! I can totally live with that, LOL.Jana wrote:The next step is to play it. It sounds normal for those amps. A handpicked tube for V1 will help a little bit but other than that, it is the nature of the beast.
