Hi - I have been trying to find this NTE part - the 1k 25W that Mouser has is by Xicon, and it is much, much larger. Just talked to them last week, and they confirmed that they only have the Xicon.
Thanks, Davids

Re: How common is hiss in an Express build?
Thanks guys - I guess that's what is needed: a reference point. It's just that when you play it for the first time, you don't necessarily think in terms of fair comparison. My JTM45 build is pretty quiet, but it has nowhere near the gain. By the way Geetarpicker - heckofa potential caption comes to ...

How common is hiss in an Express build?
Thought it deserved its own thread - Trying to get a sense of how many Express clones have turned out to be hissy, and what construction tips might make the difference. I haven't listened critically to my hiss to see if it swells and tails off like a compressor, as was mentioned in a previous thread...

Re: Ruby kit building notes...
Hi Mojo - I'd be up for comparing notes, but my my build goal was to duplicate the "Halloween" build from the pictures in our files section. Aside from the wacky wood-grain garolite, I have gotten pretty close. Now the downside - HISS-O-Matic. Not sure if this comes from the lead dress (copied from ...

Re: Source for Custom Chassis
Hi all, I just chatted with Mike of Komboking chassis - he's back in business again and another source of custom-sized chassis, for those of you willing to do the punching and drilling yourselves!

Re: Two Rock Ruby
Hi - just finished my Ruby build - just doing some final tweaks. Besides the effects loop, it differs from A0 in the following ways: Treble Pot = 1Meg, Bass Pot = 1 Meg, bright cap is 180pF, 2nd to 3rd stage coupling is a single .0022, the NFB resistor is 100k, the phase inverter has .1uF on one sid...

Re: What to learn from Francesca
Jake - do you have any pictures posted of these final lead dress modifications to your build (and pictures of the overall build itself)? Sounds like you have a layout well worth modeling as a baseline for additional experimentation.

Re: sanity check? EL34 pinouts and bias probe points
Hi Robert - there you are! Thought you might be able to help since you've been there... The drawing I have doesn't show the 1 pin connect explicitly, only the 8 pins, and the photo seems to corroborate that but you have to look hard and sort of trace the wires as they cross and twist. If it worked f...

sanity check? EL34 pinouts and bias probe points
Hi - trying to finish the Ruby this weekend, and looking for someone to verify/correct this. All I have for the bias test point information is the photo in our files section, and I think I see clearly enough how it is connected, but I'd feel better if someone with more knowledge of EL34s can validat...

Re: question about francesca pics
Assuming this PS is basically the A0 schematic, shouldn't there be 2 bleeder resistors (or 2 series pairs)? I thought the whole point of a bleeder system was to balance a pair of capacitors connected in series to get a higher max. voltage rating (like the TW A0) schematic. This series pair, seen in ...

Re: What to learn from Francesca
Is that really a 25watt resistor? It is MUCH smaller than the 25w Xicon resistor I just received from Mouser... If it is a true 25w, does anyone know who makes (made)it?
Thanks, D

Re: Sleuthing challenge - name that manufacturer!
Hi Robert! Thanks for your tips on the PT re-placement by the way... I would have hated to have gotten that far without knowing it won't fit as drilled... Yeah, I'm clear on the resistor values and acceptable kinds, it's just that for me, part of the fun of the build is the challenge of researching ...

Sleuthing challenge - name that manufacturer!
Guys - anyone recognize the specific make/model of the following resisitor? It is a 1k resistor, light gray in color, mounted between a terminal strip and pin 4 (screen grid?) of each EL34 (next to the blue metal film resistor) - see the Ruby photo in our files section: Two Rock Ruby - Inside 1 phot...
