Re: ODS #77 for auction

I worked with Kimbo from 2007 to 2010. We were both at Peavey. He was a sales rep, and I was the head designer in the custom amp shop at the time. I played this amp several times. (as well as the ODS head he had) All the mods were done by Dumble in an effort to get this amp closer to the sound of th...

Re: rock city

now that I see the little box, I do remeber a device like that. Seems to me I remeber Kimbo plugging that into the fx loop. And yes Peavey was a strange test in patience. We could start a new forum for just that topic. I assume Kimbo didn't need this device plugged in to get that feedback correct? ...

feedback

Talbany, I have to admit, I'm a terrible one when it comes to taking notes. But, I know I do have a few on Kimbos amp. I need to did through all my stuff from my days at Peavey and find them. I'll post them here if I can dig them up. From what I remember, Kimbo bought the amp in 82-83. I do remeber ...

Re: 102 Feedback City

This amp feeds back in a similar nature to the ODS that Kimbo Davis owned (may he RIP). That amp always amazed me how at living room volumes it would feedback. It was nearly impossible to play and did take getting used to. Kimbos amp had 6L6's with 704VDC measured at the plates. I always wondered if...

Profiler

A friend of mine who lives in Denver got his hands on one of these to try out. He's very anti-modeling in nature. At the same time he also AB'd it against the most recent version of the Fractal Audio. He said hands down, the Fractal smoked it. In fact he bought a Fractal. Modeling technology is cert...

HRM pots

I like to put in another relay or a push/pull pot and make the HRM switchable in/out. Then you have 2 OD tones at your disposal

turrets

Nice turret layout. Personally I have no problem with turrets, or straying from the layout. It's the tone that is the issue. Nothing built by anyone on this or any other forum is a "Dumble", so what does it matter. For Example, Red Plate does not utilize the Dumble layout, and they're practically im...

Re: Dumble on Ebay......Egads!

Yup, for sale by the daughter of the original owner who was a close friend of mine. He once showed me the original sales invoice for which he had paid $1700 each for them. Not a bad investment. They were posted on this forum for a while. Everbody speculated who they could belong to. (I told them who...

Re: Dumble on Ebay......Egads!

WOW, Crazy pricing! I just blows me away. With the current economy, dealers are offering about 20K for the ODS heads, and trying to sell for 30k-ish. Where does $85K come from? There are 2 Dumbles for sale in the Dallas area right now, and combined they're not 85K. Crazy. But good luck to the seller.

Re: Wow... Look at what I just grabbed. Serious NOS Porn

Great tube score. Every once and a while the planets align. I worked for a division of Siemens for several years, and one day back in 2005, they were cleaning out the panel shop and one of the guys called me and asked if I wanted about 60 of these "things" labeled EL34. It was a good day.

Re: I had no idea...

In 2009, after the Nashville Amp Show, I had the priveledge of sitting next to Vince Gill, and seeing Robben Ford play. Vince summed it up..."he's the man". No doubt!

Re: Dumble book in

When I worked at Peavey, Hartley Peavey bought the book and made me a copy. Personally I think there's better and more useful info on this forum than there is in that book.

Re: New government regulations?

This would not surprise me at all if a new regulation like this goes into effect. When I worked at Siemens, we were always being confronted with UL, CUL, CE, and a host of other ever changing regulations that made little sense most of the time. The problem with the regs is the way they right them. I...
