Re: Adding attenuator network from AC4TV to other amps

Thanks, Zippy! At one time manufacturers put a volume control on amps to control volume. And at one time amp manufacturers saw overdrive as a defect so they kept making amps with more and more headroom until they were unusable and musicians kept having to crank it louder and louder just to get overd...

Re: If you're making a demo vid, buy a mic!

Good stuff, Mikey... can't wait to hear it. And contrary to common sense - don't bother getting the most expensive, high end mic you can find - especially for demo purposes. Every guitar player should get to know the sound of a 57. It's one of the most widely used, readily available mics on the plan...

Re: Silvertone 1472 Mod Help

New question for this (re)build: I'm thinking the pentode/triode switch is going to get me where I want to go - lower output and mid-driven tone. Although I don't actually want a switch... just to leave it in triode mode. Not sure how to implement it on this amp though because from everything I've r...

Bingo, Structo!

Although for most of the 'personalities' in the videos, not talking is a totally viable option.

Just because you're on camera it doesn't mean you're Stephen Colbert.

If you're making a demo vid, buy a mic!

If I watch one more video online of some dude playing something that could be amazing but sounds unbelievably terrible because they're using the built in mic on the camera to capture the sound... I'm gonna lose it. You probably just spent >$1000 on your amp (or well more than that in time spent buil...

Re: Silvertone 1472 Mod Help

Thanks xtian! ... But I'm a little confused - C1 and R15 are in the same location and have the same values as the original schematic. Maybe they need to be changed because of other changes I have made, but if that's the case can you please explain what I did to require the change? As for the bright ...

Re: Silvertone 1472 Mod Help

Okay folks, I've been chipping away at the schematic for the changes I want to make and I think I'm ready for feedback. xtian - I liked your idea for the 1 channel of Fender style 1.5k/100k so I 'borrowed' it. I'll have to play with the mixer resistor values to get the right blend of course but for ...

Adding attenuator network from AC4TV to other amps

Hey folks, I've got an AC4TV mini (the 6.5 speaker combo) and I love the selectable attenuation on it. I get that it has an affect on tone at the lower settings but it means I can plug in and overdrive the pre after my kid has gone to sleep... 2 things that I can't do with any of my other amps so it...

Re: What is this... Utah Gold?

Hmm... The speaker codes would point to Utah but I just found out about Fisher which look exactly like mine and were used in the 1472's originally. Perhaps a joint venture by Utah and Fisher? Regardless, it looks like this speaker had at least something to do with Fisher. It turns out the 3012 stamp...

What is this... Utah Gold?

Hey folks, Any idea what this speaker is? I've heard it could be a Utah Gold. It's pulled from a Silvertone 1472 and it sounds almost entirely like farts. Very flabby, loose bottom end. Seems to be the original speaker from the amp. Numbers are: V12JP6 328151 3012 (this is also stamped inside the ca...

Band-pass in a Silvertone 1472

Hmmm.... no takers, huh? Okay, let me re-phrase the question. First, my understanding of R1 and R2 are that they are grid resistors that limit the top end of the frequency range prior to the first 12AX7. 2 questions stem from this: 1. I've heard that grid resistors prevent oscillation in the amp, bu...

Band-pass in a Silvertone 1472

Okay folks, I know this sounds like a bad idea but I want to add a band-pass filter on the mic channel prior to the first 12AX7 of a Silvertone 1472. Can anyone help with the cap and resistor values? I would like it to cut below ~220hz and above ~850hz. Here is the schematic: http://www.prowessampli...
