Re: Mesa Rectoverb 50 vs. Peavey 3120
Well I sold the 3120. My options right now are the Mesa Rectoverb for $500, 5150 2x12 for $425, or a 4X10 Peavey classic 50 for $300.

Re: Mesa Rectoverb 50 vs. Peavey 3120
Correct me if I'm misunderstanding you because I'd likely never touch either of those amps... but... you have an amp you like. it happens to be part of a half stack (4x12) setup. You're thinking of trading it for a 1x12 combo and don't know if you'd like it or not. Call me crazy, but why on earth a...

Mesa Rectoverb 50 vs. Peavey 3120
I have a 3120 half stack right now. It sounds great and all but it is too big. I don't take it anywhere to jam with people because I have to take it up and down step all the time. This guy has a Rectoverb 50 combo that I could get instead, but I have to trade in my 3120. I'm wondering if anyone here...

Re: Amp hum
Check out the input jack and make sure it shorts to ground when nothing is plugged in. Also check the grid leak resistor (typically 1Meg) Are either of those things I could do without much experience? I hear a lot of people on here talk about getting electrocuted so hard you end up on another planet.

Re: Amp hum
Another thing is the guy didn't give me back my power cable. I found another one that was 120vac so I figured that should work and won't make a difference?

Re: Amp hum
No, it hums with the guitar not being plugged in. That howling squeal sound thing only happens if the guitar is plugged in.
I cranked the volume an tapped the amp head and it didn't make any noises through the cab. I tapped the preamps and I think v3 might be a little microphonic?

Re: Amp hum
It does it without the cable being plugged in as well. Would a micophonic preamp cause it?

Re: Amp hum
I moved it out into another room where there is only 1 little light with no dimmer. Still the same thing. I should mention the thing squeals if I turn the gain past noon.

Re: Amp hum
He said the amp wasn't buzzing at all after he changed the tubes so I was wondering if it could be my power?

Amp hum
It's on my 3120 again/still. Had all the tubes replaced and it sounds better but still not so great. The hum is volume dependent. If i change the volume on the guitar or the amp the hum changed. Zero volume = Almost no hum. It still makes the hum when nothing is plugged in and the volume is up. I th...

Re: Squealling help on peavey 3120 with new tubes
I told him I wanted them back and he kinda said no without directly saying it. Maybe I'm looking into it too much. I stress myself when I am unsure of things.

Re: Squealling help on peavey 3120 with new tubes
No, when I got it there was buzzing and a speaker output didn't work. This is the first time I have ever had work done and I'm not even sure I can trust the guy. What if he doesn't even replace all the tubes?

Re: Squealling help on peavey 3120 with new tubes
Why did he replace all the tubes? I doubt they all failed at once. He's the tech he should tell you why its squealing He said all the power tubes were bad and the bias was all over the place. Was having buzzing problems before on the lead channel. I'm sure he didn't need to replace all of them but ...
