Re: Legacy Valve Edition 15

I picked up my new heater transformer & got it mounted on the chassis today, with a tagstrip for the parallelled 6V windings. I glued a 10,000 uF 16V electro (thanks again Andrew!) to the chassis with silicone next to the tagstrip, & connected its wires to the other 2 tagstrip terminals. When I get ...

Re: Legacy Valve Edition 15

Thanks Structo! As a matter of fact I'm just about to jump on the 'treddlie' & ride round to the post office & collect my 6V 3A toroid transformer, some tagsstrips, & a 4700uf 35V electro I bought from a friend (thanks Andrew!). I'm still waiting on WES Components (hurry up guys!) to deliver me a se...

Re: Legacy Valve Edition 15

more shots of the progress so far. Someone was really peeved about breaking their rear cabinet panel into 3 pieces trying to get it off! I can see how this could happen with the weak points at the ends of the oval cutouts. It took me a fair bit of effort to get the thing off safely in one piece, But...

Re: Legacy Valve Edition 15

the equivalent epiphone range is/was known for problems with cheap fuse holders. Wow thanks Gary! - You found it in one! I found a cheap white plastic in-line fuseholder hanging off the power transformer. It had partially melted, so there must have been a voltage drop where there shouldn't have bee...

Re: I just had an idea...

you could switch in progressively higher wattage lamps in parallel with each other, but in series with one leg (preferably the active!) of the mains. this would gradually bring the ac voltage into your amp up slowly. amps with higher filament power demands are gonna require a higher wattage lamp in ...

Re: Power suplies and capacitors

Looks like you're sailing pretty close to the wind with the voltage rating of the caps too. You're probly safer using 400V or even 630V caps.

Re: Parallel zeners?

You could try a single higher wattage zener instead.

You can get them in 5 watters; they're the same size as a 1N5408.

Re: Are Motor Run Caps Of Any Use On Guitar Amps?

Jaycar Electronics in Australia have non polarised electros in the 100 volt range of up to 400uF. They are 16 x 37 mm. You might be able to get them by mail. I believe they're mainly for speaker crossovers, so I'm not sure on their ESR. I built the Silicon Chip Magazine 'Low Ohms & ESR Meter' for ab...

Re: TUBE AMP TROUBLE HELP!!!

yjmevh1, I noticed that in the post before yours, szlash280z had a kinda similar problem as yourself - as far as the popping problem goes anyway! His problem was arcing between the pcb & one of the valve pins. I was just thinking you may want to check in that area as well, to try & prevent problems ...
