Re: Rocket Hiss and Pedal Popping
Have you given the Rocket any thought? It's nicer to pedals than the other 'wrecks.

Re: Liverpool weirdness.
Thanks, Glen and Bob. I agree, the ground is a huge problem. This isn't my permanent residence, but I'll look into a grounding stake soon. After reading through old posts last night, I ended up (you called it, Bob) switching secondaries on the PT. Here are the voltages now: Sec.: 500V B+1: 336v B+2:...

Liverpool weirdness.
So, last night I fired up the Liverpool. Typically there's a noisy heater in the room where I play, but it wasn't terribly cold, so the heater and its whine were gone. Then the weirdness began. Power switch on. Transformer hum. Not a loud hum, but louder than it should be. I found that the hum is ac...

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
Did you mean C8? If so, it's .0022uf. R7 is difficult to see in the photograph, but it's actually a 68k. Coincidentally, I'm running V30's right now, and I'm inclined to agree with you. I think the breakup and aggressive mids of the V30's are contributing to the harshness. I'm rolling both treble an...

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
Spent a while playing through the Liverpool last night :) I corrected an error in the filament wiring, then went through the startup procedure smoothly. There was a moderate amount of noise, but I have a feeling it's mostly due to issues outside of the wiring (grounding issues in the house, no head ...

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
When power is switched on, the bulb flashes, then fades to a dull glow. I'm guessing there's an error somewhere, but I'm having a hell of a time trying to find it. Would it not be isolated to the PS board? Hints? Tips? Tricks? Ridicule? I'd say this is a good result. The initial flash is the filter...

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
so did power up yet, or are still waiting to review your work? you said this is your first major electronics project. i'm always jealous of folks like you who can seemingly jump into these builds and do such a good job the first time. nice work. I appreciate the kind words. I wouldn't be so jealous...

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
Thanks Mark and others for the ideas on the resistors. I'll experiment on the next build. Here's a 03:00 am update: [IMG:1024:577]http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab90/mattmodular/IMG_20140108_015226_014_zps326bb239.jpg[/img] I'm out of my mind from lack of sleep, but I believe I've gotten it all....

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
that's usually how i do it for tw style amps. some people j-hook the resistor leads and put one single wire across them with insulation pushed on as opposed to putting an individual wire between each resistor. also, i'm always careful to check that there is enough clearance between the bottom chass...

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
There are some small tag/turret strips you can use but... I REALLY wouldn't wander too far off the beaten path with your first TW. Liverpools are quite high gain & Ken's original layout works. Follow it as closely as humanly possible. Everything Matters. Repeat this 3 times before you switch on the...

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
Mornin', folks. Quick question. Is there a more elegant solution here with the leads across top? I mean, if it works, it works. Just curious.

Re: New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'm getting really antsy at this point, and trying to keep from rushing my work. I find that as I continue throughout the build, I look back on some of the areas I worked out earlier and find them lacking. Something about the preamp tube wiring makes my right eye twi...

New to the neighborhood. Liverpool build.
Hello, good people of the amp garage. I've recently begun a Liverpool build (courtesy of RJ) so I'm here to chronicle the process, for better or worse. First, a bit of a confession; This is my first real electronics project. I have a reasonably firm understanding of electricity and electronics in th...
