Re: 6L6 spitfire/creme brulee variant : phase inverter question
Yes the EL84's are easier to drive. I built an ac15 to specs without the vibrato channel using EL84's. As for the current build I picked up some cheap mono hifi amps with 6L6 and ef86 tubes and corresponding transformers and just decided to experiment. The most logical thing would have been a bassma...

Re: 6L6 spitfire/creme brulee variant : phase inverter question
I think I might try the same to toggle between a 470cathode/10k tail and a 1K2 cathode/47k tail.
Did you use a 2pdt, 3pdt ?
Would you happen to have a layout/schematic of how that get's wired up?

6L6 spitfire/creme brulee variant : phase inverter question
Hi all, I've built a spitfire/creme brulee using a 6L6 output stage and am looking for advice regarding the phase inverter. Currently it's the vox long-tail design : 1meg plates, 1K2 cathode, and 47k tail. I reduced the tail resistor to 10k. Would there be any reason to switch to a fender long-tail ...

Re: cheap caps drain quickly on shutdown : are they bad?
Thanks for the quick replies :
Amp sound good.
I dont think there's a bleeder resistor. i included the ps section i'm using.
I'll try powering down without the tubes.
I began wondering about this because I noticed that my Ampeg Jet J-20's caps drain much slower.

cheap caps drain quickly on shutdown : are they bad?
Hi, Sorry, might be a beginner's question. I built an ac15 inspired clone last year which sounds fine overall, but I'm a bit perplexed by how quickly the caps drain themselves when I turn the amp off....they drop right down to 6 volts ! These are cheap caps from the local electronics store. Should I...
