I was thinking about doing that as well but then found one on ebay for $56 which is a lot like the old hp I used in the service. The New Steve H wrote:I guess this will sound crazy, but I built a frequency generator as a kit a few years back, and I also bought an old professional model on Ebay.

Re: Oscilloscopes - teach me pls.
For most of the signal tracing you'd do in a tube amp it's low voltage. I just use a dvm for the power supply stuff. They do make high voltage probes (we have them at work) but I don't know the cost. I found a good deal for 1x and 10x probes at amazon.com. You could also make you own hi volts tester...

Re: Fender Amps - Circuit Board Conductance
I just ran into this problem. See "Problem with1966 Super Reverb" post. I live in Pennsylvania and the amp I'm working on was stored in an unheated garage for several years. The board has a couple of waves in it with both ends raised up. I have several tube amp books and a few of them mention the co...

You may not need to remove the board. If yours is like mine, you should be able to lift the tube side of the board with the fewest de-solders. Do a few good cleanings with alcohol and put some heat on it. I'm using a flexible neck desk lamp. Fairly warm but not too hot. Then you can use several sing...

Re: Problem with 1966 Super reverb (AB763)
I checked for dc volts on the board and sure enough it's there. My particular problem however, was a bare wire jumper between two eylets following the 250pf treble cap. It was laying tight against the board. On a whim, I pried it up off the board and presto! Noise gone. I will solder a new insulated...

Re: Problem with 1966 Super reverb (AB763)
Jezzbo, I have exactly the same issue with a 70 SF Twin. I have re-soldered connections, changed coupling caps, heated the board and placed some pieces of heat shrink between the boards but it's still there. Looks like I have to separate the boards for inspection (such a pain). Oh well. BTW I can't ...
