I dunno.......
I just pulled a 1998 era Pioneer home theatre amp out of the bin and there's any number of 50v bypass electrolytics in that. Probably like Nichicons and I don't know builders having problems with that.......

Re: Lowry Organo -for parts?
Lookin' at mine, they look the same. The added 'bump' is a feature I don't have. It would be a shame if you can't use 'em, but I don't know. Hi-fi phreaks are noise-o-phobics more so than connoisseurs of sound, and OCD about specs besides..... We need to hear from a bumblebee expert. What's the verd...

Really?......
Having dropped the stop panel and shattered the keys, I decided to part out the carcass. There's bumblebee caps galore, but they are all the PAPER ones. I suppose they are oil-filled, too, but these are the sort that are notoriously bad. Experienced hi-fi amp guys just cut these out and bin the lot....

Re: Son-of-a....
I'd give 'em a go. Especially if the pigtails are cut too short to use for anything else and these things are too available to be doing anything like.... leads extensions or anything like that. Save a rubbished oscilloscope or commercial transceiver from the landfill and clip out all that you need. ...

Re: Developing the DIY "Champ" for first time builders
......But I will see if I can tame the hum altoghter and how much (uf) I have to go to get there without resorting to a choke. A choke is not always the solution. A tech school instructor I had summed up a discussion of calculating power factors where inductive and capacitive phase angles were conc...

A bulb limiter is very simple to build. All it is, is a box with a mains line to an outlet with a 20 to 40-watt lightbulb on the high side. The bulb does the current limiting. If a component is shorted the bulb is full on, if operation is close to normal the bulb barely lights. Used in combination w...

Re: Introduction From Newbie
I guess this counts as an intro thread. Maybe a sticky should apply it to the top of the board..... I'm one of the few on my side of the field that got an interest in collecting radio equipment. The local consignment shop had me sorting and collecting parts for a time simply to help clear the aisles...

Re: Visually identifying preamp tubes?
The 12av6 - 6av6 family of valves - tubes, have a very distinctive "frame grid" structure which makes them very easy to pick out. All the dual-triode octals can be thrown into the same box and that does for almost half of a sort through random material.....

Re: Lowry Organo -for parts?
· Hold assembly in one hand and iron in the other · Apply heat to the join until the solder pools · Give the assembly or part a sharp snap, the action is all in the wrist · Hope the solder splash comes off the panelling XDDDDD.......... I have been told that there are good bumblebees and there are b...

Re: Lowry Organo -for parts?
Each of the twelve little boards has 3 Tropicaps, 1 BB, 8 or 9 red Erie disk caps, ~ 3 dozen carbon comp resistors, possibly something else. I am guessing, if I made this a "vacation project" it would take me a whole week to extract all the parts and sort them. What surprises me most, though is how...
